Lexa waved goodbye at her daughter when she handed her to Clarke around 8:45 on a Friday morning, seeing her blue eyed angel wave back weakly, a yawn slipping out of her tiny little mouth that rested against the woman's collarbone. "I love you baby." Lexa smiled softly. "I love you too mama." Her three year old answered before she had to tear her gaze away and leave the room otherwise she would end up staying out of her own free will. The brunette was worried when she first put the toddler into the summer program. What if Ellie wouldn't make any friends? Or if she misbehaved with them? What if the older kids were mean to her little girl?
Her worries were very high at first, but now seeing how she warmed up to Clarke and how some of the other kids were excited to see her come in, Lexa could feel her fears start to dwindle. Seeing her daughter interacting with the kids made her heart warm, of course Ellie would be safe, trusting Anya and Clarke was a good play on her part. She had known Anya for years, it was a bit odd that somehow the older woman was working within the summer program, but she somehow fit in pretty well. The kids also liked her from what Lexa could tell, which was funny because Anya used to think she wasn't one for kids at all.
Clarke was new, someone she hadn't met before. She made small talk with Lexa when she would come in the mornings the past couple of weeks, it ranged from talking to maybe a hint of flirting, on Lexa's part. She always caught herself a second too late, and despite the blonde's subtle surprise, she usually hid behind her smooth poker face. You see, Lexa had observed the blonde quietly, taking in her gestures and habits she could somewhat try and pick out due to her training in psychological studies and medicine. Clarke wasn't just here for the position, from what Lexa guessed. She believed the blonde was also there for another more hidden reason. But not one that made Lexa bring out the caution tape. As she drove to work, she couldn't ignore the memory of the intern's bright blue eyes. Clarke was a beautiful woman, her eyes held more stories than her lips could tell. And it intrigued Lexa very much.
The brunette frowned at her thoughts again, pushing Clarke to the back of her mind as she drew closer to the hospital. She couldn't think of someone like that right now, not when work was right around the corner. She entered the building and immediately shrugged off her black blazer, grabbing her white coat and exited her office, doing her best to push away the thoughts of the blonde, however, she was still there throughout her morning meetings and case briefings, nagging at the back of her mind.
"Lexa, can you fax me those last cases from yeterday's OR run in?" Gustus, one of Lexa's good friends asked when she fell in step with him to get a quick coffee. "I'll write that down, how's Aden?" She opened the door for them. "He's been doing well, took a liking to basketball pretty fast. Anya wants to sign him up for a small club team and see what happens from there." The older man replied before watching Lexa once more. "How about your little girl?" He adored Ellie, never admitted it, but Lexa knew. Gustus was a big strong man on the outside, tough exterior, but a soft caring personality. He and Anya helped Lexa raise Ellie as a baby, caring for her like any father, and Lexa trusted him with her life. "She's good, I'm not really worried anymore. I think she's in good hands." Lexa smiled, thinking of the blue eyed woman and Anya, although mostly Clarke. "Something tells me it's not just Anya you're speaking of." Gustus grinned for a millisecond, although it wasn't easy for Lexa to miss. She bit her lip and shook her head, but inwardly kicked herself once the blue eyed intern floated back to the front of her mind once again. The man patted her on the shoulder before disappearing with a coffee around the corner of the hospital. Lexa made her way over to her office and shrugged out of her doctors coat, taking off her tie and let it hang around her neck, dropping into the chair behind her desk.
Here's to another day of dealing with broken people, physically or emotionally, she thought and walked out, grabbing her phone to slide it into the back pocket of her fitted dress pants. It's not that Lexa didn't enjoy her job, it was simply the fact that helped her realized she was could be rather lonely, seeing her patients or hearing her colleagues talk about their family or couple activities whilst all she did was work without having someone else occupy her mind or cheer her up or spend time with her on a day off. She was doing well with Ellie as a mother, but, she was still a little lonely. The 27 year old Doctor read through her new cases that just came in an hour ago maybe whilst she was attending an overdue staff meeting. It was still in the end, not much. The brunette sighed heavily and checked her watch two hours later. 3:50, Indra was taking the night shift today so she would be able to go fetch Ellie once more instead of have Gustus or Anya take her home. Lexa's heart lurched in delight as she put her tie back on and grabbed her blazer, she loved spending time with her little baby girl. Ellie was smart, she was growing fast, learning new things, and had the cutest curls, the most potential puppy dog eyes that she could use to get out of trouble with her mother if she did something wrong. Lexa adored her daughter, treasured her to no end. She practically skipped out of the hospital after faxing Gustus, sprinted to her car and left before a stray nurse could drag her back inside the white walls of the place once more. Lexa breezed through the slight traffic, tried not to race down the street towards the school, and pulled into the lot, smiling at the thought of seeing her daughter again along with a particular intern. Part of her was fighting the giddiness she felt about Clarke whilst the other just went with it. Sure enough, there she was, minutes later after greeting Monty the desk boy, he called the summer camp's class and had Clarke bring her daughter. "Mama!" The three year old cooed in excitement when she saw Lexa. "Hi babygirl!" Lexa caught the three year old that was tottering over to her and picked her up, showering her little girl in pecks and kisses, delighted. Ellie giggled, her soft orbs melting as she squeezed her mother's cheeks and hugged her neck tightly. "Hi Lexa." Another gentle and pleasant voice pulled the doctor out of her moment, seeing Clarke standing before her. "Hello again, Clarke." She couldn't fight the smile this time. "How was work?" The blonde asked, making a bit of small conversation. "Exhausting, I could've napped at the staff meeting today and not missed a thing." Lexa huffed, feeling Ellie shift in her arms to get comfortable. "Coffee always saves you from it all." Clarke whispered jokingly in her ear, making the brunette laugh in delight at her small joke. "I agree, w-why don't you come have one with me?" Lexa couldn't take back her words once they stumbled out of her mouth, her green eyes blinking in surprise. What are you thinking?! You can't start anything with your job, and your daughter! She kicked herself ready to face the rejection, also remembering that Clarke was a couple of years behind herself and had more to experience than a young single mother and her very cute baby girl.
Clarke looked shocked when Lexa spoke, as if she missed what she said. Lexa felt her smile drop a bit and resumed a neutral face, sighing inwardly and held her daughter a bit closer for comfort. No one wanted to put up with a woman and her child, that's just absurd. "I-I'm sorry Clarke, forget what I said. Have a nice day." She forced herself to be polite before dragging off to her car, with her toddler in her arms and leaving her pathetic fractured heart behind, just another to add to the tiny collection. "Lexa, wait, wait." Then a voice surprised her mildly, but she saw Clarke approach her before she crossed the parking lot. "I-was um...surprised when you said that, I'm sorry I didn't mean to seem rude. I would l-love to go get coffee with a beautiful woman." She tried for a weak smile, watching Lexa tentatively. Ellie watched both of the women in caution, seeming to beg Lexa to do the right thing with her wide olive eyes.
"You're too kind Clarke." Lexa knew she was lightly flushing, seeing a small smile reach Clarke's face now. "It's a lovely truth." The intern blushed in delight and nodded. Lexa could feel what she thought to be her heart speed up a little with excitement, because a beautiful woman had agreed to an outing with her, already aware of what was going on with Ellie and herself. Before making an even greater fool out of herself and dropping her only child, Lexa carefully placed Ellie in her car seat before running around to the other side of her car, almost smacking head first into the blonde beauty in front of her. "I-sorry I'm just, a little bad at this." She felt her cheeks slightly redden at the sight of Clarke's amused grin, small but real. "I am too. We'll figure it out. But for now, how about a Sunday coffee date?" The blonde tried. Lexa mentally jumped and realized she was free from work. "That sounds great." She smiled softly, receiving a paper from Clarke. "Don't be shy and call me so we know where to meet." Clarke nodded her head gingerly towards the paper in the brunette's hand. Lexa took a chance to subtly take Clarke's hand in her own and pressed her lips to the back of her knuckles gently, smiling. "I'll make sure of it m'lady." She winked, seeing the blue eyes she was warming up to sparkle. "I'll see you later, Lexa." Clarke was blushing now. "Count on it." Lexa whispered in return before turning to get in her car, her heart on fire.
