Chapter Four

When I opened my eyes, I was in my living room. I had to put my plan of action into motion immediately. I walked quickly out of my living quarters, locking the door behind me.I didn't need Mother dropping by and snooping. After was done locking the door, I turned and jogged towards the prison stairs. I practically ran down the stairs, stumbling a couple of times. I must have been faster than I thought because some of the prisoners hadn't quite made it into their cells. They looked at me fearfully, but I ignored them. I rushed toward Leonard's cell. Leonard looked up as I skidded to a stop outside his door. I knew I was grinning like a mad woman. Leonard looked a bit wary.

"You will never guess who I just saw", I said excitedly.

"I give up", said Leonard, amused.

"Your daughter is beautiful", I said and was surprised when, instead of smiling happily, Leonard looked shell-shocked. "Why aren't you happy?" I asked.

"Please, tell me she isn't here", he begged. Well, that explained it. I stopped grinning for a moment.

"Leonard, do you really think I would do that to you?" I asked seriously.

"I thought you might have thought I would want her here with me," calming down now that his panic was unfounded.

"I don't even like it here, Leonard. I wouldn't bring anyone here," I questioned, a little hurt.

"What is her name?" asked Leonard, like a dying man asking for water.

I smiled once more. "Gemma." I was happy to get the dopey smile I was expecting to get the first time appear on his face. "She's very kind, Grandpa."

His head snapped towards me. "Grandpa?" he asked. "Yep, she's got two kids. I saw their picture. They're adorable."

Leonard's eyes brimmed with tears and he blinked them back. "I don't know whether to be mad or thank you for telling me."

"Well, I personally think a thank you is in order because I've decided to break you out."

He looked at me surprised. "You can do that?" he asked.

"I have a few tricks up my sleeve I haven't told you about. So look as sick as you can for the next few days and I'll show the only thing I like that I can do as an Aikaode."

His eyes brimmed with tears once more. "Thank you", he said.

"Your welcome," I said, a little shy.

About a week past before I had everything in order. I had to have fake identification and a fake birth certificate for Leonard in order for this to work. On the birth certificate, his name was Leonard Pinnan and he was seventy-five years old. All week Leonard had convinced everyone he was as sick as a dog. If it hadn't have been my idea, I probably would have thought he was sick. I got all of Leonard's things together and set out.

I walked down the stairs and walked toward Leonard's cell. I stopped in the door. When Leonard looked up at me, I winked. He smiled and nodded in understanding. We had agreed that when I was ready I would wink at him. He got into his bed and lay down, closing his eyes as he did so. Now it was up to my acting. I screamed a piercing scream. "Leonard is dead", I yelled. I entered the room. A few brave souls stood in the doorway and peered curiously into the room. I let tears flow from my eyes that were not entirely false. "What are you staring at?" I yelled at them. They shifted uncomfortably and left the doorway. I put my hand on Leonard's shoulder and closed my eyes.

When I open my eyes, Leonard and I are standing in front of Gemma's house. I feel tears slide down my face. Leonard turns to me. "How can I ever thank you for taking me home", he asks.

"This is just me paying you back for being my only friend all these years", I said solemnly.

"It was my pleasure", said Leonard.

"Is it all right if I drop my to see you occasionally?"I ask, fretful that I won't see him again.

"Of course, you're my friend. I want my family to understand that you are the one responsible for bringing me back."

"Oh, trust me. They believe that, I think Carol might have a few questions though."

"What did you do?" he asked me amused.

"I had to make her believe me so I kind of disappeared in front of her." Leonard laughed. I smiled and then I stepped back. "Until next time, goodbye." I closed my eyes.
