Chapter Thirteen
Haydin's POV
"Goodbye" That was all the warning I got before Reaka disappeared from my life forever. The look in her tear-filled eyes ripped my heart to pieces and then my guilt took the pieces and ground them into the ground. "Why did you say that?" I asked Eric. I could feel the calm fury seep into my voice and Eric whirled around to face me. "Why did you make her cry? You didn't even give her a chance!" I said.
Eric looked at me confused. "Why are you mad? I probably just saved our lives. Aikoade can't be trusted."
"No, Eric, she saved my life. I would be dead right now. I saw the look on that woman's face. She would have killed me without any mercy. You didn't even give Reaka a chance just because she is Aikoade. I know you are a Muiridu now. Do you know what everything I have been told on vampires? They all tell me that I should stake you in the heart and count myself lucky that I didn't die", I said venomously.
Eric flinched. He started to look a bit remorseful. "Well, what about that man?" he argued,"She fed on him."
"He's supposed to dead!" I shouted. I already felt strongly for Reaka. She saved me.
Eric shut his open mouth and paused. "What do you mean?" asked Eric quietly.
"I mean that that man, Leonard, is supposed to be dead. I talked with the other prisoners. He has supposedly been dead for over a month. They said he he had acted so sick they were worried that he would die soon. They said Reaka went into his room and screamed. They said that, when they went into his room, she was crying. They said that he was dead. They said that she took him away", I said getting louder with each emphasized sentence. Eric didn't say a word. "So, unless Aikoade can also bring the dead back to life, I'm guessing that Leonard wasn't as dead as everyone thinks he is. Where did she go to get him?" I asked.

Eric POV
Aikoade can't bring people back from the dead. Leonard was human. She was about to cry and Leonard defended her. Aikoade don't have mind control either so Leonard must really care about her. Why would a human care about a siren that stole his life though? Was she really different? All these thoughts shot through my mind faster than a speeding bullet. Haydin was right. I prided myself on hearing both sides of every story, but I had written her off as another selfish siren. Haydin was looking at me with an emotion I couldn't decipher, but I did have a reason for my hatred."I'm sorry", I said softly," You're right. I should have listened, but I do have a reason for my distrust." Haydin was silent. "Have I ever told you about my uncle?" I asked. Haydin shook his head. "I haven't seen him in twenty years. He was taken by an Aikoade." Haydin's eyes flashed with understanding. "Muiridu can't be transported against our will by Aikoade like humans are. Aikoade can't take any Supaernatural against their will. We have to go willingly; we have to consent and mean it. My uncle was a firm believer in trust and that was his downfall. This Aikoade, Maya, swore that she had been banished from all Aikoade homes because she had refused to have a child with a human man. Aikoade are expected to have at least one child by their six hundredth year. She told us she had run away because she refused. He took her in, cared for her, and fell in love with her. Then, one day she asked him to take her hand and let himself be transported. She left a note that she and my uncle had run away to be married. Nobody was worried. She had earned the trust of everyone in my family. It was about six months later that another note appeared in the mail. The letter was from the Aikoade people sending their condolences about my uncle's death. My uncle was only eight hundred years old. The youngest natural death of a Muiridu is a little over a millennium. My uncle was murdered by an Aikoade. I have not seen an Aikoade since, nor will I trust one. I will not allow myself to be smitten like my uncle."
Haydin was silent for almost ten minutes. I let him think and busied myself by straightening things in my living room that had gotten knocked over in the scuffles. "I honestly think Reaka is different, but I'm sorry about your uncle. What was his name?" Haydin asked finally. I stood up and looked at him sadly. "Thomas. My uncle's name was Thomas."
