Chapter Eighteen

Unknown POV

When I opened my eyes, I immediately crouched to a defensive position. Vampire! I circled slowly. The vampire hadn't been here for a while, as I could see by the layer of dust on most of the rooms surfaces. I wondered slightly why am Aikoade would seek refuge in a vampire's home. Aikoade and vampires weren't known for their good relationships. I was betting that her transport into a vampire's lair was an accident.

I knew I was right when I found another transport spot not even five feet to the right. I walked into the transport spot and closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes, I found myself on the front porch of a large house. I rang the doorbell. A moment later, an elderly man opened the door. I sensed that he had been with an Aikoade recently. I put on my best salesman smile and asked,"Are you interested in a carpet cleaning? We are having a promotion and are giving twenty free carpet cleanings. If you allow me to inspect your carpet, I will send a cleaner tomorrow." I ended my fake sale pitch with a winning smile.

"Free you say?" the man asked. I nodded. "Well, I'd normally ask the missus, but ,since it's free, I suppose it couldn't hurt."

I nodded. He moved into the hallway, gesturing for me to follow. I walked behind him trying to subdue the excited feeling inside me. I was getting closer; I could feel it. We walked into a room that was obviously used as a living room. It was a spacious room, but my eyes immediately darted to the pictures. There were dozens of them lining both the walls, shelves, and even the mantle. Most of them were of a man and woman, others were of two small children, and still more were of the elder man with another woman. I scanned all the photos. I saw nothing of significance in most of them but -There!- a picture almost hidden it was so small was a photo of my target posing with the elderly man.

I walked over to it. As I walked nearer to the photo, I noticed out of the corner of my eye the elderly man grow tense. I faced the photo. "Who is the young lady?" I asked, as I turned to face him. "She is quite beautiful." The man paused for a moment before answering.

"She is my goddaughter," he answered finally.

"What is her name?" I asked.

The man paused for even longer this time before finally answering,"Reaka."

I walked around the room. I could feel the transport pull. There were a few old spaces, but I was looking for the most recent. I found a recent one coming, but I needed a recent going. I finally found the spot. I am good! This job will be wrapped up in no time, too bad. I looked up at the man and grinned my trademark grin, dropping my salesman act. The man looked momentarily surprised before quickly adopting a threatining posture. I almost laughed. He couldn't hurt me, but I didn't kill anyone except for the targets.

"You're not a salesman," he accused,"You asked about Reaka. Why?"

I smiled maliciously. "I'm pretty sure you know why. Why don't you tell me?"

"Are you going to hurt her?" he asked.

I laughed. "Don't take offense, sir. After all, it is in my job description. By the way, thank you for helping me. The Hunt is too fast for my taste, however. I'll allow an hour warning. Good Luck!" Then, I disappeared.
