My Reasons Why

Part Three

Online chat rooms with strangers weren't new to my knowledge, but the thought of talking to random people around the world who I'd never met had never interested me. Sure, I'd briefly talked to online people before such as in comment sections blogs and YouTube videos, but never like Katie was doing so now.
Chat with a random stranger! was boldly covering half of the screen. The page looked sketchy, replicating my thoughts of all the sketchy people we would come across. If my parents knew I was going to use a site like this, I would be dead. Using the Internet for 'non-education purposes' was bad enough in my parents eyes, yet alone using it to talk to people I've never met.

My parents have always been pretty strict. My education has been the most important thing throughout my life. Social life, friends, fun and everything in between were classified as pointless distractions to my parents. Even visiting Katie today was a pretty difficult gamble with my dad, considering he thinks as school starts tomorrow so I should be going to bed at 7pm or some ridiculously early hour, so I'm 'fresh and fiery' for my first day back. No dad, no one says that. Not even cool dads. Jeez.

Katie clicked on the chat button, and in less then a second we were connected with a random stranger.
"Easy right?!" She laughed, and began typing.
"No hang on a second, you've made me come all the way over here, so I'm gonna be the one doing the typing okay", I said, pulling the keyboard towards me.

Stranger: hi
You: Aren't you enthusiastic?
Stranger has disconnected

"Oh wow, most hilarious website ever, you say?"
"Well obviously if you talk like that people won't want to chat! Look, not everybody is fun on there, give it another go", she urged.

You have connected with a stranger
You: HELLO!!
Stranger has disconnected 

Twenty unsuccessful chats later, I told Katie to pick a better website next time, and began to head back home.
