Meeting Scott Smalls

Smalls Pov:
I moved to the neighborhood two weeks before school let out. It was the same summer that Dodger Maury Wills would break the stolen bases record. So with something that incredible going on, it should've started off with loads of great things happening for me, but it didn't. I was from another state, and I didn't have a single friend in a thousand miles. It was a lousy way to end up the eighth grade, 'cause I had zip time to make friends before summer. And that's about where it all started. My real dad died when I was just a little kid. My mom had married Bill about a year before we moved to the Valley. At the time, he and I were still getting used to each other.

"Um, Dad?" I said

"Mm-hm m?" He answered

"I -I mean Bill. - Remember you-- you promised you'd teach me to play catch?" I said Nervously

"Mm-hmm." He answered again

"Um, w-well, could you teach me?" I asked

"Yeah. Sure. Okay" He finally Said
"Okay? Thanks. Sorry". I said running out of his work room.

*Next Day*

I'd followed them to the sandlot once after school. - I'd never seen any place like it. It was like their own little baseball kingdom or something. It was the greatest place I'd ever seen anyway.

Layla Pov:
It was finally Summer Break and me and Benny promised to spend the summer together we've been together since the 3rd grade same classes and all but this year was going to be different and harder well because we were going to be freshman going to high school with a lot of peer pressure but I got to know Squints, Bertram, Ham, Timmy and Tommy, Denunez, My Brother Yeah Yeah and Benny. I always loved the game of baseball but when Yeah Yeah insisted on me coming to the sandlot I couldn't say no. I looked over and saw a kid with a glove wanting to play

"Benny." I called and point to the kid with the glove

I walked over to the kid he looked kinda small to be playing a baseball and kinda new around this area

"Hey I'm Layla.." I said

"Hey I'm Scott Smalls." he said looking down

"You play?" I asked

"Nah I'm just learning how but don't tell them." he said looking at the guys

"I won't tell those knuckleheads anything but they are cool. Umm see the tall one." I said pointing to benny

"Yeah I saw him yesterday when I was moving in." Smalls said

"That's Benny My boyfriend. he's like the greatest here." I said

Benny Pov:
"Huddle up" I said

The team huddled up and everyone was sweaty and tired from playing baseball

"Who's that guy talking to Layla" I said

"Idk look like he's trying to make a move on your girl Benny." Ham said

"Yeah Yeah, He really close." Yeah Yeah said

"Benny you need to go over there." Timmy said

"Benny you need to go over there." Tommy repeated

"Nah let's play ball I trust her." I said we left the huddle and played ball I hit the ball and it accidently hit Layla in the head

"Watch it Rodriguez!" She yelled at me and then threw the ball to Denunez

Layla's Pov:

I walked back over to where Smalls was and he looked amazed

"You play with them." he asked

"Every now and then when they need an extra player " I said Said

"I gotta go." Smalls Said

"Okay... See you tomorrow here." I said

"I don't think so." Smalls replied

"Okay you know where to find us.." I said running back to Benny

"Who was that kid Layla?" Benny Asked

"Scott Smalls.. he just moved here and he wanted to know what this place was and who are you." I said kissing his cheek

"Ewwww enough with the PDA you two." Squints said

"Yeah Yeah get a room." My brother said
