Smalls Pov:

Bill tried teaching me how to play but I only ended up with a black eye.

"Hey. I'm gonna play some ball. We need an extra guy. You wanna go?" The tall kid came up to me I forgot his name

"No. Thanks." I said

"Why not? Don't you like baseball?" he asked I couldn't tell him

"Oh, yeah, but--" I had to come up with an excuse so he would leave and I won't be embarrassed

"But what?" He asked again

"But my glove-- it's busted. Uh, see? Now I can't go. Thanks, though." Was the quickest thing I could think of

"It's okay. I got an extra one. Come on. Let's go." He said and I was not getting out of this

"Mom, I'm gonna go play some ball! I'll be back in a little while." I yelled in the house

"Come on. Let's go." Benny Said

We walked till I seen the kids that were on the field yesterday but their was no Layla with them

"Listen. Ready? Check this out. I'm the Great Bambino." One kid said

"What?" the rest of the boys said

"I'm the Great Bambino". The kid said again

"What?" The rest of them said

"I'm the Great Bambino." He finally yelled

"Oh!" They all looked each other and said

"Who's that?" I asked

"What?" The kid turned around and said to me

I had no idea who they were talking about.

What did he say? The chunky one asked the other guys

"What, were you born in a barn, man?" The Darker one asked me

"Yeah, what planet are you from?" one kid said that was kinda orange

But there was no way I could let them know.

So I lied.

"Oh, yeah, the Great Bambino. Of course. I thought you said,

"the Great Bambi." I said stuttering a little

"That wimpy deer?" The chunky one said

"Yeah. I guess. Sorry." I said laughing to lighten up the mood

"Anyway, Scott, that's Timmy and Tommy Timmons, Mike "Squints" Palledorous, Alan McClellan-- we call him Yeah-Yeah-- Bertram Grover Weeks, Kenny DeNunez and Hamilton Porter. We call him Ham. and I'm Benny Guys, this is Scott Smalls." Benny Said introducing them to me and me to them but they all spit

"Where's Layla." I asked

"She had Cheerleading practice. but she'll beat us at the sandlot" Benny said

"Yeah, um, wel, he's gonna play with us 'cause he makes nine. Now we've got a whole team. We're wasting time. Let's go to the sandlot." Benny said to the team and we was leaving by the time we made it to the sandlot Benny was right Layla was there in her cheerleader uniform sitting down
