troye and nicholas share a biology class, apparently. nicholas is still not quite sure how exactly he has failed to notice the cute boy with eyes bluer than the sky.
when the two are paired for their final project, troye begins to notice nicholas. nicholas, with his amber sunlight eyes and bronze black hair curled in the sun's heat. nicholas, with his laugh (like happiness on a loop) and his smile (like sunlight in a bottle) and his lips. his lips will be the death of troye.
they work on their project during lunch ("sorry, lucas, i'm sitting with troye today. for the project." "oh it's cool. have fun over there." "shut up.") and in the library after school ("not going to be on the bus ride home today, sorry tyler." "oh it's cool. have fun in the library." "literally shut up right now, or i swear to god - ").
nicholas and lucas and jesse begin to sit with troye and his friends at lunch. lana and jesse share notes on trigonometry, and jesse gently corrects them all on their pronouns. nicholas steals troye's food and gives tyler the answers to the history homework. lucas and connor share soft and nervous smiles over tyler's loud laughter. nicholas leans into troye and touches light kisses to his cheek without thinking about it.
connor smiles.
he will tear himself to paper thin pieces trying to make it hurt less.
he is happy that troye is happy.
connor is in pieces and it does not hurt.
