Words could not begin to describe how unreal this moment was for Stevie. Here she was sitting next to her ex who is the father of he long lost child that she gave up for adoption twenty four years ago. And here she is sitting with her just by chance. She marveled at her daughters beauty and her habit of rolling her eyes when talking about herself as if she's nothing special. '' Oh but she is'' Stevie thought, Sari means the world to Stevie, and Sari has got no idea that her two birth parents are sitting right in front of her. To Sari they're just kind hearted people who have an awesome job of performing and making music. She's not one to be a fan girl, after all she's worked with Nicki Minaj and is currently a backup dancer for Chris brown(despite the trouble, she sees him as a friend and he appreciates her talent and is in love with her dancing). Sari's dad Vincent, was a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, he even took her to see Stevie during the street angel era concert. What Stevie doesn't remember is a mystery man with a little girl she adored....was actually Vincent and Sari!
Sari brings up the night '' You know it's funny, I can't believe I forgot about this but. Miss Nicks my dad took me to see you when I was five or six um, so that was uh 1994.'' Stevie takes her hand out from under her chin and looks amused '' Really?''. Sari smiles and nervously chuckles '' yeah actually and I don't expect you to remember but um, your brother I think it was spotted us in the crowd and before the show during the opening act, he took us to see you in your dressing room and we spent the rest of the night with you, I think...'' Stevie's eyes widen, and her heart starts racing again '' I remember'' she thinks, ''. She thinks back to that night and that moment but before she does she says something '' Oh how could I have forgotten'' How could she have forgotten, meeting her daughter and spending time with her that night. Being introduced to the man and realizing it's Vincent and the little girl Sari, made some things easy for Stevie that night.
8/25/1994 Street angel tour:That night.
It had been six years since Sari was born. But on this night for some reason, all of her current insecurities, her anger towards her addiction to klonopin, and her thoughts about 'what would have happened, if I had kept her' were all haunting her tonight. She had two hours til she was set to go onstage, but she was taking all her frustration out on everyone around. She was sitting on the couch looking very unimpressed, all she wanted was to be left a lone with the girls in her dressing room no MEN! She wasn't in her performance gear, all she had on was a floral dress with a leather Jacket. Their was a knock on the door, Lori looks at her '' Stevie do you want me to answer it'' Stevie waves her hand '' Tell them to get what they want, and leave me the F*** alone'' she hissed. Lori opened the door to Christopher her husband and Stevie's brother, they exchanged a kiss before Lori let him in. He walks over to Stevie and tells her what he saw in the crowd, '' Stevie um, there was a couple in the crowd who caught my eye and I thought you might wanted to meet them''. She gives him a serious look and she shakes her head '' no, mm mm, no visitors I'm not in the mood, tell them sorry but Stevie feels like crap!''. Christopher takes her hand, '' come on Stevie, just meet them, I know you'll be happy to see them.'' Reluctant to, though she's willing to give them a chance Stevie sighs heavily then agrees to meet the couple.
She lifts herself off the couch, '' the guy's probably a hot rod and the young lady is most definitely a supermodel-looking gal'' she pats the wrinkles down her dress and looks up. Chris peeks his head out to the door '' she says you can come in'', as soon as the couple walks in Stevie recognises the male. He's very tall, light hair and light eyebrows, his stature is of a brickhouse, '' Hello Stevie'' he says in his thick Welsh accent. She releases her breath '' Vincent'', her eyes then shoot to the young little lady whose head was resting on his shoulder, her back facing Stevie. '' Sari'' she says in her mind. She hadn't seen Sari since that moment in the hospital, and she had a couple of pictures of her from when Sari was still a very small baby. Sari was now six, she was quite small for her age despite being a whopping big nine pound baby girl. With her back facing Stevie, Sari had a dark blue leotard on with a yellow tiered tutu with a red ribbon on the left and right hand side of the skirt, and a red bow ribbon on top her head.
'' What are you guys doing here?'' she says in a serious voice, '' well gonna say this, but I ain't kissing your arse. But I'm a big fan of yours, and I thought I'd take my sweet little lady out on a date'' he pats Sari's head. Stevie can see her blinking and fluttering eyelashes from the corner of her eye, Stevie becomes in denial and nearly gets upset with Vincent, '' look you didn't have to bring her with you'' he looks at Stevie in disappointment. And it was disappointing, his favourite singer whose child him and his wife adopted did not want to see her beautiful little girl and how well she was doing. He feels that Stevie let him down '' all right Stevie, we'll leave, come on poppet'' he caresses Sari's hair. As soon as Vincent turns around, Stevie sees them. Those hauntingly intense blue eyes, '' Blue gray eyes they change with the colour...'' she sings in her head. Sari has 'his eyes.
Just then Stevie stops him '' Wait, don't leave.'' Vincent turns around. Stevie steps forward as Sari slowly turns her face to face Stevie's, seeing her face for the first time Stevie opened her mouth in shock. '' Damn, she looks like Lindsey, when he was just a little child except she has my hair and my nose...and she's a girl'' she combs a curl out of Sari's face, her hand slowly make it's way to stroke her cheek. '' Hi baby girl'' she greets Sari, Sari doesn't react she just examines Stevie up and down not recognising her at all. Stevie knows that she's six, but to her she still felt like a baby '' can I hold her?'' she opens her arms out to Sari. Sari not knowing her though felt that Stevie meant well, so she stretches her arms out to Stevie and as Stevie wraps Sari's little legs around Stevie's waist, she wrapped her arms around Stevie's neck. Stevie traced a line through her hair '' oh, oh Vincent, she's darling'' Stevie says. Vincent smiles feeling Stevie's Tenacity towards Sari, he watches her stroke her hair. Stevie was always beautiful with children, but for some reason she felt nervous holding Sari, still it was such a sentimental moment for her. '' Do you want to spend some time with her?'' he ask Stevie, she takes her eyes off Sari and listens to Vincent '' spend an hour or two with her, interact with her for a bit''. She looks to Sari '' Honey would you like to spend some time with my friend Stevie'' Vincent ask Sari, she looks at Stevie then to her dad and nods her head quietly.
Stevie's heart jumps, Christopher invites Vincent to come and have a drink with him down in the bar and leaves Stevie with her entourage and with Sari. She sits down on the couch, with Sari. Quiet little thing, but she must like Stevie to say yes to being with her. '' How old are you Sari?'' hoping to get an answer, but she doesn't get anything but a simple little smile from the girl. She's sitting on Stevie's lap looking around the dressing room, '' Okay are you hungry?'' the girl gives a little nod, and being the caretaker that Stevie can be, gets up and gets a plate of food and some drink for her. After that Stevie starts getting ready, and has Sari sitting on a chair facing Stevie. As Stevie's hair and makeup is being done she watches Sari take small bites and eventually show Stevie her big smile. That big smile makes her heart melt, and Stevie's gives the same smile right back to her. She finishes her food, and Stevie lifts her up onto her lap again. Sari falls asleep on Stevie; '' My, my, she doesn't say much but I can tell she adores you already'' Lori says looking at the little girl fast asleep. Stevie clutches onto Sari asleep in her arms, '' She's beyond what I thought she'd be like. Lori she's the sweetest thing'' Stevie starts to do some deep thinking and talking. '' Before I was being a cow, I uh, I was thinking about Sari and how everything could've been different, had I kept her. Lindsey and I would have made up, worked things out, rasied this little lady and possibly have another one or two.''
'' But I can't take her back Lori, it's far too late. I would love to, I'd give up everything in a heartbeat to have her back with me...but Nancy and Vincent are such amazing people and they're parenting her right.'' She keeps her eyes on Sari and holds her warmly and tightly in her arms. Vincent comes back for Sari, they stay for the show and Stevie even brings Sari up onstage with her. Introduces her as her 'new best friend' and holds her while singing 'Has anyone written anything for you.' It was a beautiful night.'
