Johnny and Roy were both admitted into a room together and the whole crew waited for Miranda. Mike was a complete wreck and no one knew what to do about it.

"Mike..." Roy said as he moped in

"How are you guys?" He asked and cleared his throat

"We'll be fine" Johnny said

"Good. So will Randi." He said trying to be happy. His face was red and he looked like he was just hit by a truck. Chet got him a chair and he put it in the corner and waited. The others sat in chairs closer to the beds. They said nothing to each other until the doctors came in hours later. The men stood up with tears in their eyes

"She made it" Joe Early said with a smile. A sigh of relief came over the men. A very painful sigh for the paramedics though.

"We're admitting her into the ICU," Kel Brackett said, "Mike, you're allowed in there" he said with a smile. Mike nodded and stood up and followed him out. Leaving 5 out of 7 in Room 255.

"So.... What now?" Johnny asked looking up with sad eyes

"Well... If you guys want to come back, you will have 4 weeks off, paid, and then you'd come back to a new truck.." Hank said rubbing his tired face, "Assuming you guys are coming back?" He said. The two friends nodded and looked down. That wasn't a yes, but it would never be a no.

"What about Miranda?" Roy asked

"That's her decision. If she can come back, she'll get 3 paid months off and then she'd come back into the force with you guys." Hank said. They nodded again and Hank saw the apprehension in their eyes and spoke up, "What happened tonight, was no one's fault. And I need you guys on my crew. It's not the same and we can't do it without you 2 and Miranda" he said tearing up. The guys nodded and decided to rest, letting the firemen leave..

----

This whole day had worn all of them out. Finally, Joanne and the kids showed up and she didn't leave Roy's side. The firemen went home and took shifts to come and sit with them to relieve Joanne.

"You two... My God!" Joanne said after a few hours of silence. Johnny smiled as he laid flat in his bed as Roy slept, "Can't sleep John?" Joanne asked sweetly

"Nope.. I'm too tired to sleep" He said blankly. Joanne moved her swivel chair over to Johnny

"I could never go through what you guys go through... And I'd never stop you guys but there comes a time when you two should take a break" She said motherly as she held onto his arm

"Why ruin the fun?" He said looking in her eyes jokingly. She got serious

"I mean it John. I don't want to be a widow and we wouldn't be able to live without you, Uncle Johnny" She said with a heavy heart. He took a minute to think of something to respond it with

"But I love doing this. And so does Roy"

"I know" She said wiping a tear, "He always said he wants to die doing what he loves which is saving people"

"That's the firemen's way" Johnny said with his classic half grin and goofy eyes

"What about you and Miranda though? What if you died and left her behind?" Joanne stabbed. No one knew except Roy...

"Who told you?" He said cocking his right eyebrow toward her

"My woman's intuition" She said with a big smile, "The way you look at her and the way you two act around each other it's obvious to other women. No one else knows, even Roy."

"Yeah" Johnny grinned as he started to doze off into a deep sleep.
