Hours went by before she saw the light. Her blue eyes were glossy and reddened. She saw her step mom and her half brother sitting next to her bed. They smiled to see that the 25 year old girl woke so quickly. Her head pounded like a bass drum. She tried to close her eyes again but her fully awake brain would not let her escape into a deep slumber

"Hi..." Miranda said slowly

"Randi.." Her mother said rubbing her daughter's cheek. Mike smiled and held her hand

"When can I get out of here?" Randi asked

"It'll be a couple weeks at most" Mike said, "4 more days in here, then probably a week in a normal room... You'll be out before you know it" He said with a grin

"I have the worst headache in the world" She said even quieter

"Given you just had skull surgery" Christia said. Miranda gave a smirk.

"Where are Johnny and Roy?"

"They have their own room" Mike said, "They'll be out in a day or 2 and then they'll be able to see you" Miranda gave a thumbs up since she couldn't nod. Her two visitors laughed and a knock at the door came. Mike got up and answered it. It was Captain Stanley, Marco and Chet

"How is she?" Hank asked with big eyes

"She's awake and talking.... Come in" He said opening the door to the firemen. Miranda was hooked up to about 4 monitors and they didn't realize how small she was until then.

"How are you feeling Harrison?" Hank asked with his hose jockeys basically hiding behind him

"I have a headache the size of the planet but otherwise I'm good" She said weakly. The guys nodded and smiled

"Don't worry, Johnny and Roy are down and asking about you while they're stuck in their room" Chet said

"I think they'll drive each other up a wall before they get discharged" Marco said in his own matter of fact manor. This made Miranda smile like a child

"Probably" She said, "I cannot even fathom how boring these next couple of weeks are going to be. I can't read, write, watch TV, be in bright places, or listen to loud music. I think they are trying to kill me" She said with big eyes. The guys laughed hard

"Obviously" Mike said sitting down

"Guess you'll just have to cheat the system" Christia said with her elbows resting on her knees. She had never met the firemen of 51 and didn't want to either. Normally, if you met the firemen's parents, it would be the last time you'd see them.
