Chapter 20 - Records are for Playing

The next morning, My Chemical Romance were all ready to go to the meeting at Eyeball Records.

“You’re going to meet us later for coffee right?” Frank asked me and Charlotte for the fifty-seventh time.

“Yes, we’re not going anywhere,” Char told him, stroking his face with her hands. “You know that. You’re just nervous.”

“I know.”

“They’ll love you. I do,” she smiled.

I think now is a reasonable time to look away. The mushiness is coming.

Mikey gave me a knowing smile. “I wonder if that’s how Frank feels with us.”

“No he just watches and makes jokes later.”

“That’s not weird at all,” Mikey smiled.

“He seems pretty nervous,” I observed.

“We all are.”

I reached up, brushing my lips against his for a second. “You guys are brilliant. There’s no reason they wouldn’t like you.”

“Thanks T,” Gerard appeared from the house, wrapping his arms around my neck in a bear hug. “You love us.”

I burst out laughing for no apparent reason. “Yeah I do,” I said, hugging them both.

“Group hug!” Ray shouted, joining us in the hug, Bob, Frank and Char following.

We pulled away with grins on our faces; all the obvious nerves melted away.

“We better go,” Bob said. “We don’t want to be late.”

I gave Mikey a quick hug and kiss, before hugging Frank and the other guys.

“Good luck!” Char and I shouted as they piled into the car.

Charlotte turned to me as the car pulled away from the driveway and down the street. She grabbed my hand. “C’mon, we’re going shopping,” she said excitedly, pulling me to her car, which was parked across the street.

Three hours later, I was exhausted – it’s the simplest way to put it. I knew when Char told me we were going shopping, there’d be a lot of trudging around with an unbelievable amount of shopping bags clouding all view of our arms. What I didn’t expect was to see my best friend get herself into a cat fight over a pair of tan leather boots. They were gorgeous boots, but I still didn’t see what the fuss was all about.

“They were about to sell out in my size!” Char told me for probably the seventieth time since we’d left the shoe store.

“And you decided to start a fight with a woman twice your size?” I looked at her in disbelief.
