Chapter 9 - An Approval & ANOTHER Complication
I shut the door behind me before turning to face Frank, “About what?" Frank stayed silent. He turned and walked into the living room with me following behind. We sat at opposite sides of the sofa.
“Frankie?” I asked, knowing that would get his attention.
“I want to talk about you and Mikey,” he said finally.
“What about us?”
Frank sighed, “I get you didn’t want to tell me because of everything that happened with Charlotte but it was a shock when I saw you with Mikey,” he began, “Especially when it clicked that you were actually with him, as in, you know…” he trailed off.
“Yeah I know I was.” I stated simply.
“Is that the only explanation I’m getting?”
What am I supposed to say? Oh, I was scared of how you’d react to your best friend asking your baby sister out, so I didn’t tell you?
Frank recoiled.
Shit, I just said that out loud.
“Did you think I would react badly to it?” he asked.
Yeah because you think I’m made of glass, I thought. This time I didn’t say my thoughts aloud. I just stayed quiet.
“Terra?”
“I didn’t know!” I exclaimed, “No one was expecting you to act that way when you had your argument with Charlotte! Who says it would be any different with me?”
“It is different,” Frank said softly, “Because you’re my little sister.”
“And?”
“And…I just want you to be happy T, and to me it seems like Mikey is a big part of that,” he said.
I blinked, surprised. That wasn’t what I was expecting, I thought.
“Frankie, you’re a even bigger part of it,” I said quietly and I knew he’d heard me.
Frank smiled, completely wiping the seriousness from his face. He put his arm around me, “You know I’m just looking out for you. What kind of a brother would I be if I wasn’t?”
I shuffled closer to him, “You wouldn’t be Frank.”
“Thanks T,” he grinned, before adding, “Best friend or not, Mikey hurts you, he’ll have me to answer to.”
I laughed at his over-protective brother-ness, “I love you Frankie,” I said wrapping my arms round him.
“You know I love you T,” he said, resting his chin on the top of my head, “And you know I’ll always have your back, no matter what happens.”
I know that too, I thought.
We sat like that for a few minutes, just enjoying the company. It wasn’t often that we argued, and even if we do its never over anything major. Most of the time it’ll be who gets the sour Haribos when there is only one packet left.
“Oh,” Frank mumbled and pulled away, “I knew I’d forgotten to tell you something.”
“Huh?” I said, confused.
“You’re not going to like this,” he said simply.
Oh no. What now? Is there someone else he needs to protect me from that I don’t know about? “I’m not going to like what Frank?”
Frank shook his head, “No, you’re really not going to like this.”
“FRANK!” I exclaimed, making him jump slightly, “Get to the point!”
“AuntMelanieiscomingtovisit,” he said, far too quickly for any normal person to hear, but not too fast for me.
“WHAT?” I yelled, “Aunt Melanie is coming to visit!”
“I said you wouldn’t like it,” Frank stated simply.
“When?” I asked.
“Tomorrow afternoon.”
“Oh, for how long?” I asked calmly, even though I was so close to bursting.
“I don’t know,” Frank shrugged, “She didn’t say.”
“Is Travis coming too?”
“As far as I know. And Cody too.”
I groaned.
“Look I know you don’t like Melanie, but she’s the closest family we have,” Frank explained, giving me no choice to give an opinion.
“I know that. That’s not what I’m worried about.”
“Then what is it?” Frank asked, frowning slightly.
“She doesn’t like me dating anyway, but she really dislikes the guys in the band. What are we supposed to do?” I explained.
“Ohhhh,” he said as the realisation hit him, “We’re not going to tell her,” he said finally.
That should be fun.
“You should go to bed T,” Frank suggested, “Its been a long night and we’ll both need the energy to put up with her tomorrow.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. Frank hates her as much as I do. “Yeah,” I said before a thought occurred to me, “But what if she finds out?”
Frank sighed, “Don’t worry about that T,” he said, getting up to go upstairs, “We’ll cross that bridge if it comes to it.”
I smiled before walking upstairs to my bedroom. After changing and going through my usually nightly routine, I climbed into bed and I was out of it as soon as my head touched the pillow. All the thoughts of tomorrow completely left my head, leaving only the moments of tonight to replay in my head.
