Ms. Maximoff had called 911 once we got back to Peters house. I changed out of my smoke filled clothes and was now sitting on the couch, Peter's younger sister showing me her toys as she played on the ground.
"And Peter got me this one." She held up a pink pony. I smiled and took it from her hands as she held it out for me. "Peter likes you." She smiled up at me.
I was slightly taken back by her words. "Well he's my best friend."
"No." She shook her head. "He likes you likes you."
"That's enough out of you." Peter walked into the room and picked up his sister. "You should have been in bed a long time ago."
"I wanted to talk to the pretty girl." She pointed to me. I blushed slightly as Peter looked at me.
His sister whispered something in Peters ear and he smiled. He turned his head to her and nodded. She gasped with a bright smile. "See I told you!" She cheered, looking at me. I was slightly confused.
"Say goodnight to Sky." Peter laughed.
"Night Sky!" His sister waved. She then yawned and rubbed her eyes, resting her head on Peter's shoulder.
I smiled as the two walked off. They were the cutest thing. Somehow being here with this small family had made me forget about everything. They made me feel safe. Especially Peter.
"Sorry about her." Peter sat down next to me as he returned.
"No it fine." I smiled. "She's adorable."
Peter smiled back. "So are you." He nudged me slightly.
"Shut up." I put my head down.
"Hey, it's true. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't." I looked back up at him. I tried reading his thoughts but they were running all over the place like always.
Before I knew it, our faces were inches apart. My breath caught in my throat. Well this is happening.
"You both have school in the morning." We pulled apart as his mom came into the room.
"You can have the spare room." Peter stood up, waiting for me to stand up as well. "Follow me."
"Thank you." I smiled at his mom as we passed her.
"Anytime." She smiled back.
Peter took me upstairs and down a hall. He opened a door, flipping on the light. "I hope this works." He put his hands in his jacket pockets.
"It's great." I told him.
"Just call if you need anything. I'm down the hall." He started walking to the door.
"Peter?" He turned back to face me. "Thank you. For everything."
I walked towards him, enveloping him in a hug. "Of course, Sky." He hugged me back and kissed the top of my head. "Now go to sleep because I don't want to pull your lazy ass out of bed tomorrow." He laughed.
I laughed with him. He walked out and I closed the door. My bags had been set by the door. I climbed into the unfamiliar bed after I turned off the light. And soon I was in a deep, dreamless sleep.
--
The next morning I woke up to Peter poking my face. "Are you awake yet?" Poke. "Are you awake yet?" Poke. "Are you awake yet?" Poke.
"Yesssssss." I smacked his hand away.
"Good." Peter smiled. "We got school so get dressed."
