{Simon's POV}

Our cars went seperate ways, and Lewis and Hannah dropped me off at my house. The snow was coming down hard, and I quickly went into my house to warm up.

It wasn't until that I took my jacket off that I remembered the newspaper. I got it out of my pocket, the paper only slightly wet from the snow. I spread it out on the kitchen counter, turned on a light, and read it over.

I didn't get through much, and with my frustration from earlier, it just lead into more confusion. I left it on the counter and went into my room. I dressed into my night clothes, and went to sleep.

The next morning, my head was more clearer. I made some breakfast and sat down at the counter. I looked at the newspaper and then I remembered that I left it there. I sat down near it and studied the red circle closer.

It was an ad that was put in the newspaper ages ago. It advertised a house that could be rented at........

I almost spit out my coffee. It was exactly three blocks away from where Candie was kidnapped. I immediatly grabbed the phone and called Lewis.

"What is it this time?" He sounded tired.

"I know where we can find Candie!" I said.

"....Are you sure? We've been trying, friend, but I don't think we should intervere any longer." Lewis said.

"Intervere? I guess we're intervering in Candie's death!" I said, my voice raising.

"Okay, okay," Lewis said. "We'll try again. But if this plan doesn't work, then we should just let the police deal with it."

I sighed, but explained my plan. "There's a house a few blocks away from where Candie was kidnapped. We should use our tactics from the apartments and go to that house."

"How do you know what house it is?" Lewis asked.

"There's an ad of it in the newspaper," I said. "There was a red circle around it."

"So you took a newspaper from someone's trash and decided to stick with it?"

"No, no, it flew in my face an-You know, never mind. Just trust me, okay?" I said.

"Fine." Lewis said.

A half hour later, we were gathered outside of Yogtowers. Lewis, Hannah, Martyn, Duncan and myself. I explained the plan to the rest of them, and although they didn't look too enthusiastic, they went along with it.

We drove down to where Candie was taken, and then found the house. I had the posters in one hand, and I took a look at the house.

The driveway had a van in it, not a good sign, and the front lawn had overgrown grass. Some of the windows were boarded up and some were curtained, but all of them were covered up somehow. The front door looked a little worn, and some of the paint on the front was chipping off.

"You sure this is the place?" Martyn asked.

I looked down at the newspaper that I hid in my pocket. I nodded. "Yup. This is the place."

"I'll stay out here," Hannah said. "We don't all have to go up."

"I'll stay out here, too." Martyn said. "We'll keep the cars warm."

We walked up the sidewalk and up to the door. There wasn't a doorbell, so we knocked. There was sudden movement in the house, and I could hear a deep voice say something. I knocked again, and got a response.

"Just a minute!" A male voice said. There was a sound above us, like someone was upstairs. Then there were footsteps, and the door swung open.

There stood a man with black messy hair and a beard. He fit the discription we were told about.

"Yes?" He said. He fiddled with his fingers.

"Um," I said, and held up the poster. "Have you seen this girl?"

The man didn't look at all surprised, twitched or looked suspicous. I could catch a quick glimpse of recognition in his eyes, which were a green, but it was gone the next moment. The scratched his beard.

"No, sir," He said. "I haven't. Sorry."

"That's alright. I-" I began, but was cut off when there was a sound from above. The man looked up, anger momentarily taking his features, but switched to confusion quickly.

"What was that?" Lewis asked.

"Ah," The man said. "We have a dog. He-"

"'We'?" Duncan points out.

The man freezes, then smiles. It seems forced. "Yes. My wife. She's out shopping right now, and won't be back for a long while."

There was a loud crash from upstairs, making us jump. The man says something like a swear under his breath.

"Just ignore him. Our dog can be-" He was once again cut off by a scream.

"SIMON!" The scream came from upstairs, and I immediatly recognized it.

I pushed past the man, Duncan and Lewis following. We were about to run up to the door when there's a loud *click*. We turn around and see that the man had locked the front door, and holds up a bat.

"We could have done this the easy way," He said. "She could stay here. But you can't. And she won't be able to go with you after I'm done with you."

That when he lifted the bat and swung it across my face.

{Candie's POV}

I was frozen when I heard the voices downstairs. Simon was here! And right now, I don't care how he found me, I just wanted to get down there.

I limped toward the door, which was made easy since I wasn't tied up. When I got to the door, I slammed my body against it. The voices stopped talking downstairs, and another voice spoke. I think it was Duncan.

That means that everyone was here! I slammed against the door again, and I think I heard the man's voice. I slammed against the door a final time, and it swung open with a loud crash!. I fell down, my ankle screaming in pain and my shoulder sore.

"SIMON!" I yell. I almost immediatly hear feet shuffling downstairs. I crawl towards the staircase, not able to stand on my ankle. I'm pretty sure it's more damaged than it was before.

When I make it to the top of the stairs, I heard his voice again.

"She could stay here. But you can't. And she won't be able to go with you after I'm done with you."

That's when I hear a smack, a few startled yells, and a thud.
