I opened my mouth wide, but found myself battling for words. "I-I, er, you?" I pointed to the smiling Sean. He nodded and pulled his sunglasses off. "My bike?" I said with a raspy voice. He tossed me the keys and jumped up.
"How'd you get the keys?" Norman asked.
"Oh, well, I saw the whole 'escape' at the jail. Yeah, then I followed you guys to here, and took the keys out of her bag and went back and got her bike!" Sean explained.
I looked at Sean in shock. Was he really standing in front of me? Out of curiosity and confusion I reached forward and poked his arm. He laughed, and oh, his laugh. A chill ran through me, and I shivered with a grin. I stepped back to my position beside Norman and out of nowhere, he rested his arm on top my shoulder.
Oh my Lord Jesus Christ is this really happening!? I asked myself, glancing over Norman. He was smiling and joking with Sean. My body had automatically went stiff with excitement, and I didn't know how to respond to this gesture, so I just stood there enjoying this moment.
"So where are you two love-birds headed?" Sean smiled and winked at me. My smile dropped and Norman's arm slid off my shoulder. My throat got tight and a lump sat there, bugging me. Norman tried to answer, but I wanted to. "We're, not-" I started.
Norman rocked back and forth on his feet, "We barely know each other."
Sean revealed his teeth in worry and apology, "Sorry. Didn't know."
I nodded and quickly broke the silence that had taken over, "And, we don't really know."
"Well, I could show you guys around. I mean, I know this place. Been here lots of times to meet up with Norm'." He said.
"How would you get around?" I observed, seeing he had no bike or car.
"JOE!" He yelled, causing me to jump.
"Why is he calling Joe?" I whispered to Norman.
"Not sure," He whispered back, pausing. "Ha, "Love-birds"." He chuckled slightly, then turned around to watch Sean run and greet Joe, the man who covered me in guts and almost exposed myself to Norman.
The response I got from Norman when he laughed at "Love-birds" caught me off guard. Did he think it was so ridiculous that it was funny? I mean, Sean just made a mistake, he didn't mean for it to be a joke. I'm over thinking.
I heard the jingle of the keys and I spun around to see Sean running up the hill with a ring of silver and bronze keys. But, one in particular caught my eye. It was a lime-green one with blue flames up the center.
"Who's are those?" I asked, taking my mind off the "laughing" incident.
"Joe's!" He called back, finally getting to us. "So. I'll ride Joe's bike and you two follow me on your own." He smiled and walked to where Joe's bike was parked.
I gasped, surprised that I didn't notice it when we drove in. It was almost matching the key: jet black with green and blue flames down the side and handlebars.
"Never." Norman said, looking toward the sky. "Never am I riding around Georgia with a man on that bike."
Sean shrugged, "Who says I'm a man?"
I smiled and skipped past Norman who chuckled and jumped on his own bike.
"WHERE TO FIRST?" I yelled over the sputters, rumbles, and coughs of our engines starting.
"JUST FOLLOW!" Sean called back before clipping his helmet on and spinning his wrist and taking off. I'm second to speed up behind him and Norman is a bit behind, still smiling about his friend.
