My eyelids pulled down, but I couldn't help but wait for Norman's daily visit.  I didn't want to necessarily mention the heart, but just see if he remembers it; if that made any sense.

My head kept falling to the side, and I kept jolting it back up.  Maybe it was something in the medicine they gave me, but I was determined to stay awake.  I felt like Marlin in Nemo trying to stay awake when he was carrying Dory through that herd of jellyfish; only the blue speck at the end was Norman.

"You look sleepy." Norman said quietly from the glass.

I smiled widely, and all the sleep seemed to slip away when I looked over at him.  I yawn still, though, but want to stay awake.

"I miss being outside.  On my bike." I said, remembering about our bikes.  "Hey, what happened to them?" I asked.

Norman chuckled.  "Mine's in the shop getting fixed, and the crew was nice enough to go pick your's up from the road." He paused to smile at me.  "Did you get my surprise?"

I nodded and held up the note, casually making sure it was on the side where he could see the heart.  He laughed at himself, and dropped his head cutely.  "Get some sleep." He said, peering back up at me, his eyes twitching to the note.  He turned off the speaker, and swung away on his crutches to go say hi to Sean.

I couldn't help but bite my lip to stop myself from giggling.  I had a rush of happiness and excitement fill my body.  When I laid down to fall asleep, I noticed myself watching over Sean and Norman chuckling together.  I kept seeing Norman look over at me through the two walls, and then smirk and drop his head like a teenager at school getting caught looking at his crush.  I would smile then pretend to fall asleep, just to spy on him again.  I was hooked.

When he finally walked away, the sleepiness covered me again, and in just seconds, I was asleep.

When I woke up, the hospital was quite.  Sean was in the room with a  doctor, slowly standing up and testing out his legs.  It was then I realized we'd been in here for three days. Well, since I was in a coma, it means we'd been here for at least a week and a half. I didn't know how hard it would be to walk since my legs had been still for a long period of time, with only the food that was pumped into my stomach every time I fell asleep.

After a couple minutes of getting used to it, Sean was walking around the room at almost a walk.  I was happy for him, but more ready to get out of this bed and onto the ground as soon as possible.

"Your turn." A cheery voice called from the speaker.  Norman.

I rolled over with a smile and peered up at his blue eyes.  His shoulders were high up, as he was just flopping his muscles, letting the crutches force his shoulders up.  I laughed, "Thank God!"

Norman began to "crutch" over to the door, following a doctor that was no longer wearing all of the rubber and masks.  The doctor opened the door letting Norman in first, then coming in and locking the door behind him.

"Let's begin with leg lifting." The man said, pulling the covers off.  The icy cold air hit them like a ton of bricks, causing a shiver to pass through me.  I ignored the fact that I was freezing already, and tried to keep my eyes away from how skinny I had gotten.

I leaned back, and lifted my first leg up off the bed a couple inches, bringing it back down with a bounce.  The doctor hid a smile, and asked me to try again but bring it down slower.  I did it, but after the alternating legs up and down, I was winded.  I had to cough a bit and the doctor instructed Norman to put on a mask for precautions.  Neither of us argued.

After I caught my breath, drank a sip of water, and coughed all I could, it was time to begin walking.  I was nervous that I would fall, or snap an ankle like a twig, but I knew that if I didn't try, I wouldn't know.

With Norman and his crutches standing right there, I slowly brought my legs off the bed, and rested them on the floor.  The metal seemed to suck all the heat from me in an instant, and I couldn't help but jerk them back an inch, hesitating.  I finally brought myself to set them down, and I did my best to think that just a few hours ago, I was wishing for an ice bath.

I pushed up on the bed, so most of my weight was on my feet, but Sean made it look easy.  In two seconds, I was tumbling to the ground, only to be caught mid-fall by Norman.  My face buried in his chest, I laughed and felt him chuckle as he fell back himself into the glass gently.

The doctor tried to help me up awkwardly, but Norman had it covered, gripping my hand and warming me instantly.  I took a couple weary steps, and felt as if I was learning how to walk for the first time.  It was a weird feeling.

It took me about ten minutes to get the hang of it, and now I was walking like normal, but a sudden rush of hunger kept punching me in the stomach.  It roared loudly and I gripped it to show I needed food.

"I'll go get you a sandwich." The doctor said, exiting the room.  I could tell he kind of just wanted to get out of there so me and Norman could have some-what privacy (Even though we were in a glass room).

Norman stood on his good foot and pulled the crutches to the side, sitting on the bed at about my knees.  I was now propped back up on my pillow.  Norman took his mask of so we could talk.

We said nothing for a while, just sitting there, happy that me and Sean were getting out the next day.

My hand found my pocket and I pulled out the paper that came with the breakfast, flipping it over in my hands.  Norman turned to me, and it seemed on cue, as his hands reached for the note.  He now knew that I saw the heart, and he softly took the note from me, and set on the bed.  His fingers slipped in between mine, and his eyes gently closed.

I was leaning in as well when the doctor bust through the door, almost on purpose, not wanting us to kiss so Norman wouldn't get sick.

Norman jumped, and pulled his hand from mine and gathering his crutches.  Before he got up, though, he slipped the paper back to me and exited the room without another word.

I chuckled to myself, and looked around the room.  To my surprise, when I looked in to Sean's room, he was standing, his nose pressed up on the glass like a pig.  He was just watching me and Norman almost kiss.  He brought his hands up into a heart, then locked his thumbs together and fluttered his fingers upward.

Love-birds.
