Blanche's POV
I woke with a start and fell out of my hammock in a rush, grabbing my clothes and quickly changing. I noticed that the symbol Mercury had drawn on my shoulder during the dream was gone. Looking at my scroll, I saw that classes had been cancelled due to a staff meeting. After washing up, I sprinted out of my dormroom, making sure to close the door behind me quietly. My teammates needed some extra sleep, but I was on the verge of panic.
I looked around and realized no one was up this early, so I took off and flew towards the building that held the library. Glancing out the window, I saw that the first wave of students had started to arrive for the Vytal Festival. I flew through the halls, skidding in front of the library doors a few minutes later.
I walked over to the database next to the doors and did a search to see if I could find any books about shared dreams in the library. I only found two, but it was still something. I scoured the shelves for a few minutes before finding both, and settled down in an armchair to read. I skipped around the first book, and found a small section on shared dreams. It stated that while shared dreams have been a recorded phenomenon, there have been no conclusive studies done about it. However, there was a theory that people who were close and going through an emotionally turbulent time were more likely to have a shared dream.
I shut the book and shook my head in frustration. That didn't help at all. Mercury and I didn't know each other before the dreams started, and I didn't have anything "emotionally turbulent" going on in my life currently. I don't know about Mercury's life but we didn't have anything strange happen in our dreams. I opened up the other book, and saw something more interesting. And also more terrifying. This book had a theory stating that the person you were sharing dreams with was your soulmate.
I took a deep breath in and tried to settle my nerves. Soulmates? That couldn't be right. I barely even knew Mercury. I did feel oddly comfortable with him though....which was quite strange considering the fact it took me all of the first semester to even feel at ease with my team. I put both books back and started heading back towards my dorm, mulling over the strange things I had just read.
"Oh come on Emerald, lighten up." A voice drifted towards me and my ears twitched in recognition. That was Mercury's voice for sure. But what was he doing here in Beacon? I turned invisible and started searching for where his voice was coming from. I passed by an open window and his voice drifted towards me again. Glancing out the window, I saw him in the courtyard below, along with two girls I didn't recognize. I slid out of the window and floated down, staying a few inches above the ground. I approached them slowly, on guard for any surprises.
"We'll find our dorm room first. All the papers needed to make it seem like we're from Haven are in order. Mercury and Emerald, your first job is to gain the trust of as many students in Beacon as you can, and find each team's strengths and weaknesses," the black haired woman whispered quietly,"When this plan succeeds, the kingdoms will fall, and darkness will return. Ozpin won't know what hit him." Eyes wide, I slowly began backing away from them. When I was sure I was out of hearing range, I sped off towards Ozpin's office.
Mercury's POV
I woke up to my alarm screeching an unwelcome siren, blearily blinking my eyes at the light of my scroll. I glanced outside and saw that it was still dark. Trust Cinder to force everyone to take the first ship into Beacon. I stripped out of my pajamas and saw that Blanche's symbol was gone.I put on the Haven uniform; it was strange wearing clothes that were so stuffy. I packed my clothes and extra Dust rounds into a duffle before strapping on my boots. I looked around my apartment and sighed. Hopefully I'll be back here soon enough.
I met up with Emerald and Cinder in the Commercial District, both of them wearing Haven uniforms as well. We boarded the airship to Beacon, staying in a corner and avoiding everyone else on the ship. We landed soon enough, and I was quick to see that we were among the first to arrive at Beacon from the other schools. Beacon was impressive up close. Lush courtyards framed the tall buildings, Ozpin's tower standing out above the rest, shining brightly even in the daytime. Cinder motioned for us to follow her, and we made our way to an empty courtyard in a corner of the school. After debriefing us, she sent us on our way.
"So what do you want to do first?" Emerald asked me. I quirked an eyebrow at her,"I'm going to find a place to take a nap." Emerald rolled her eyes at me and walked off in a different direction.
Blanche's POV
I sped towards Ozpin's office, dodging teachers and students on the way there. Slamming the brakes, I slid in front of the intercom leading to his office. Frantically, I hit the buzzer, bouncing on the balls of my feet. "Ah, Blanche, how may I help you today?" Ozpin's voice came from the speaker. "I need to talk to you. It's an emergency," I spilled out in a rush. The elevator dinged in front of me, doors opening. A minute later, the doors opened to Ozpin's office, revealing Ozpin, Professor Goodwitch, and a man I didn't recognize.
"So Blanche, what's the matter?" I dashed out of the elevator, and stopped in front of his desk. "Beacon's in danger," I looked around at the adults around me, getting looks of confusion from Goodwitch and the man, and a concerned glance from Ozpin. "Please elaborate." "There's three people here posing as students from Haven, I overheard one of them say that they were to get the trust of Beacon students, to find each team's strengths and weaknesses, and that when their plan succeeds, the kingdoms will fall!" Ozpin looked at me,"Perhaps you should start from the beginning. How do you know these people?" I sighed and plopped down on one of the chairs in front of the desk.
"Most likely, this is going to sound utterly insane to you," I began,"Two nights ago, I had a dream-" "What does having a dream have to do with the current situation?" the unknown man interrupted. "James, please. I would like to hear her explanation in full," Ozpin chided him. I looked at Ozpin before continuing,"As I was saying, I had a dream two nights ago, where I met a guy named Mercury. I woke up and obviously thought it was all my imagination. Well last night I had another dream where Mercury was present as well. We realized that we were sharing dreams, and I also found out his full name was Mercury Black. All that aside, I also know he's a criminal because he kinda let that slip on the first night. This all ties in because I just saw him in the courtyard earlier. He was one of the three people posing as Haven students," I took a breath and looked at Ozpin again.
"This is very concerning," Ozpin pulled up a screen from his desk, sorting through various surveillance footages. I saw that my team was in one of the screens, RWBY and JNPR in another. He finally stopped at Mercury, and my lips pulled into a thin line. "I assume this is Mercury?" Ozpin asked me. I nodded before James' surprised comment came out,"Marcus Black's son? I didn't expect to see him here." "He's the son of an assassin," I grumbled. James and Goodwitch both raised their eyebrows at me. "How do you know that information? That's classified," James glared at me. I glanced at Ozpin for help. "James, we're not here to interrogate Blanche," Ozpin smoothly intercepted.
"Can you tell us about the other two?" Goodwitch turned the screens toward her. "One of them has black hair and golden eyes, the other has mint green hair and red eyes. They're both wearing Haven uniforms but that's really all the identifying markers they have," I replied. She started a facial recognition search with the information I provided. Seconds later, both women turned up on screen. "Emerald Sustrai and Cinder Fall" the screen read. "Emerald Sustrai is well known in the Vale PD. She's wanted for petty theft," James commented again. We heard a splintering crack, and turning towards Ozpin, I saw that the mug he had been holding was now crushed to pieces in his hand.
"Ozpin?" Goodwitch looked at him concerned. "I'm fine Glynda," he waved her off,"Currently, the only thing we can do is monitor them. Until we hear them say anything about this plan again, we don't have evidence against them," he gave me a soft smile,"Thank you for bringing this to my attention early on. I had a feeling this might happen but we're two steps ahead now. You can go back to your team now Blanche, I'll have a talk with Professor Goodwitch and the general here about our next move." I nodded and turned to leave, hearing murmurs from the three already. The elevator dropped me off at the bottom of the tower, leaving me to mull over the recent events in both anxiety and determination as I walked off to find my team.
