[ON HIATUS] We're Not Dreaming (Mercury x OC)

Assigned to be a Guard

Blanche's POV

I yawned and stretched out my limbs, ears twitching slightly as I dimly registered my scroll buzzing. Shaking myself awake, I checked the screen. Professor Ozpin. "Hello?" I almost yawned again. "Good morning Blanche. I'm sorry for waking you up so early after last night's events but I need you to come to my office. Oh and if you can also bring along Mr. Arc and Miss Valkyrie, that would be great," Ozpin said before I heard a gulp; most likely the man was drinking from his coffee cup again, he was almost never seen without one. "Will-" I yawned,"Will do."

I got dressed and strapped my weapons on, checking to make sure I had enough Dust in my pouch. I had a preference to Ice Dust but I could work with other types decently well. I crept out of my room and knocked on JNPR's door. A sleepy Jaune answered it,"Blanche? Is there something you need at-" he glanced at the clock in their room,"-6:00 in the morning...?" "Ozpin needs you, me, and Nora up to his office," I stifled another yawn. I needed a nap in the afternoon. "Alright," Jaune tiredly motioned me inside, starting to strip out of his pajamas and into his combat outfit. I went to Nora and shook her awake.

"PANCAKES!" she shrieked in shock before registering me,"Oh. Hi Blanche! What brings you here so early?" "Ozpin needs us in his office," I sighed. She saw Jaune changing, and a look of understanding passed through her face before she cheerily leapt out of bed and started changing. I heard a clang and turned, looking at Jaune bemused as the poor boy was sprawled across the floor, having tripped over his own shield. "Alright I'm ready," Nora chirped next to me. Jaune stood up and strapped his sword to his side,"I'm ready too."

Time Skip

Professor Ozpin had explained the situation to Nora and Jaune (well most of the situation), and both of them had agreed to help. Jaune was still looking quite nervous though and for once, Nora was quiet and serious. Food had been sent up to us, and I merely nursed my cup of tea as Nora repeatedly stabbed at her pancakes with a fork. Jaune had only eaten a few bites of his breakfast before pushing the plate away. The elevator doors slid open with a soft hiss, and Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury walked through with the three professors and the general behind them. As well as one other person I had come to know well.

"QROW!" I jumped up and dashed into his arms. "Wha... Oh hey Blanche, good to see ya," he ruffled my ears gently. I had met him through my mother, since he was essentially the guardian of the Seasonal Maidens. When my mother had died and the power of the Winter Maiden had been passed on to me, he was one of the only people in the world who had kept tabs on me. I had managed to give him the slip when I was with the White Fang, but it had been him who had helped me get to Ozpin to start anew. "You reek of alcohol," I stared at him accusingly. "You got me," he mockingly held his hands up, before taking a worn flask from inside his jacket. "You want a swig?" he offered it to me. "Qrow..." all the adults in the room growled dangerously.

I shrugged and took a swig of the liquor I knew was inside. "Blanche!" Professor Goodwitch stared at me disapprovingly. I chuckled nervously and handed it back to Qrow. "I swear you're going to make all the kids alcoholics by the time you leave," General Ironwood groaned in annoyance. "If I remember right, you like your liquor too," Qrow snarked. "Qrow, James, please," Ozpin looked at the two over his spectacles. Qrow tucked away his flask and Ironwood fidgeted with his tie. "Let's get this started," Ozpin leaned forward on his desk. 

"Cinder Fall, Emerald Sustrai, and Mercury Black. I will be enrolling you three into my academy. One of General Ironwood's students is transferring over to Beacon soon, and the four of you will become a team. If you earn my trust." The three of them looked at each other before nodding cautiously. Ozpin continued,"However, for obvious security reasons, I will be assigning three students to watch over you. The three of you won't be in the same dorm together until Penny arrives, until then you will be staying with these three students' teams."

He motioned Jaune, Nora, and me forward,"Cinder, you will be watched over by Jaune. The bracelet that I have attached to you is both waterproof and bulletproof in case you were thinking about trying anything. I will be handing the key to that bracelet to Jaune. If he deems you trustworthy, he will remove the bracelet from you." Ozpin handed Jaune a small circular key hung on a chain, and as he took it, both his body and the chain glowed white. "As you can see, the key is now bonded with his aura signature. Anyone else who touches it will cause the bracelet to launch its fatal protocol.  You will most likely die of a heart attack or stroke," he looked at Cinder sternly.

"Emerald, Nora is your guardian. She will not hesitate to-" "Break your legs!" Nora cut in cheerfully. Ozpin cleared his throat slightly and adjusted his glasses,"Well, what she said. You get the idea don't you?" Emerald quailed at his words, nodding slowly while glancing at Nora terrified. "And finally, Mercury Black. Blanche will be your guardian, and I believe you two may already know the reason why." Both of us nodded, Mercury smirking at me slightly while everyone else looked at us confused except for Goodwitch and Ironwood. "Hooooold up," Qrow slurred slightly,"How am I supposed to trust a guy like Marcus Black's son to treat Blanche right? She's practically my daughter, and this punk ain't good enough for her." 

"Oh lay off Qrow." Amused, I snatched his flask out of his hand and screwed it shut, causing him to stumble slightly in surprise. "Come on you're no fun," he lazily swiped at me, reaching for his flask. "Promise me you won't drink anymore today. Please?" I gave him puppy eyes. "Damnit you know I can't resist the puppy eyes," he groaned,"Fine I won't drink for the rest of the day. At least I don't have to fight anymore today, otherwise I would break that promise a thousand times." "How do you know each other?" Ironwood asked curiously. The two of us glanced at each other. "Long story," we said in unison.

"Why don't you three show our new students around campus?" Ozpin interjected. "Let's gooo!" Nora jumped up happily and grabbed Emerald's hand, pulling her into the elevator. Jaune put a hand to his face while Cinder chuckled at Emerald's terrified look, while Mercury and I walked in after the two. The doors closed after the six of us squeezed in, and Nora immediately began chattering and bombarding Emerald with questions. The poor girl looked ready to collapse from Nora's verbal assault. Putting my fingers in my mouth, I whistled loudly, the shrill noise echoing around the small space and causing everyone to cover their ears.

"Now I think this goes without saying, but not a word about this to anyone," I looked around at the five other people with me. They all nodded, and I looked at Nora,"We should probably get breakfast. They're serving pancakes today." "Oh no why did you tell her that?!" Jaune screeched at me before all of us covered our ears once more as Nora screamed,"PANCAKES!"
