"Marcos Luna!" A stage hand shouted causing all heads to shoot in their direction as the next contestant shakily walked over.
"88" I sighed. I've been here for about an hour now waiting for my name to be called.
I really would be the one to arrive late for the one thing I've been working towards my whole life. They said if there was enough time to get me in they would, but filming is almost over and I'm starting to lose hope.
I'm here at the North Carolina X-Factor auditions sitting in a room of about 25 people. Only 15 of them are really auditioning, the rest are just there to keep them company or be supportive I suppose.
I'm alone. Mom, Dad, and Brother are back home in Sydney. They begged me to let them come watch but over sea flights are ridiculously expensive and work isn't so hot right now.
They're proud and would never admit that, but I know.
I moved to Tampa around 2 years ago when I was 14 just to audition. I live here with my cousin Jordan. He is CEO for a huge company in Miami, so taking me in wasn't an issue. He's currently in New York on business so he couldn't make it.
I've been groomed by the best of vocal coaches and dance instructors. Singing has always been my passion and nothing, not even family, would get in my way.
"Crystal Bale!" Name 98.
I looked around to see that there is only one more contestant left. She was cute. Short like me. Chubby cheeks and big chocolate eyes. She was surrounded by another small women with glasses and her hair tied up, a man in a navy blue button up, and a little girl with overalls and pigtails in her hair.
She looked up to catch me staring and I sent her a shy smile and looked down embarrassed. "Hey" I heard her say nicely. I looked up "I'm Camila" she announced softly.
"Y/n" I said just as soft, afraid if I were any louder I'd scare her away.
"So Y/n, where you from?" She sat down across from me, put her chin in her hands, elbows on her knees.
"Tampa, Florida."
"Tampa? Cool i'm from Miami. But I've never heard an accent like yours around school." She asked obviously thrown off.
"I moved here from Sydney, Australia" her eyebrows rose in excitement.
"Wow that's so cool. How is it-"
She was cut off by the same stage hand as before."Camilla Cabello" he said nastily butchering her name.
"Welp that's me. It was nice talking to you, Y/n. I wish you the best luck!" She said and stood up. I smiled as she excited the room, happy I'd managed to not make a fool of myself.
Being so focused on music my whole life, having friends was difficult. I figured pushing everyone away was best. No distractions, no drama, nothing will come in between me and my dreams.
I waved at her family as they walked out and now it's just me.
15 minutes later a stage hand rushed in "Y/n L/N?" He asked while breathing heavily.
"Yes" I confirmed with excitement.
"Come on. We can get you in, but we have to be quick." He tugged my hand and rushed me to the side of the stage.
I saw Camila in a tight embrace with her father so I quickly ran up to her. I tapped her shoulder and she looked at me with tears in her eyes. She quickly wrapped her arms around me and shakily whispered in my ear "I made it."
I ignored the rapid beating in my chest and squeezed the small girl.
"Congratulations"
I let go of her once I heard my name being called. "I've got to go, but I'm happy you've made it, mate." I was quickly given a mic and rushed up the stairs.
