She was in a beautiful garden where flowers bloomed of every kind. Rivers of honey and milk flowed through the valleys. Castles made out of pearls and gems stood there in the sun, dazzling her.
"Jenavive."
That voice.
Mother!
She turned around to see her standing in the finest clothes woven out of green silk and adorned with pearls. Her mother smiled at her. Jenavive squealed in happiness as she ran to hug her mother. Her tears not bothering to stop.
"Mother... I missed you so much! Please stay with me, please."
Her mother gently stroked her hair, smiling at her. "You've grown, my little star. So have your hair..."
Jenavive began to feel drowsy, "Momma...." She used the same word she used to her mother when she was a kid. "Please stay," Her eye lids began to grow heavy. "Please stay..."
Suddenly she saw a woman with golden hair and big green eyes standing behind her mother. She looked like an angel.
"Vive... Please take care of him, he might be stubborn but he has the stubbornness of a child."
He? Who?
"Who are yo..." Before she could complete her sentence, she once again fell into a deep slumber.
"Vive! Vive!"
She could hear her name as a distant echo. The princess struggled to open her eyes. She could see two of the most beautiful sapphire eyes she had ever seen.
Matthew.
Her eyes shot open and she sat down straight as if she was not unconscious few moments ago. "Why are you here?" She asked, rather coldly.
Matthew looked at her in surprise. "What do you mean 'why?' I'm here to take you back home-"
"Unchaste woman do not deserve living in castles."
"Vive-"
"It's Jenavive. Do pronounce my unchaste name properly."
Matthew's eyebrows furrowed in frustration. This woman was so difficult to control. "Jenavive," He said softly. His voice made something inside her melt, but she wasn't going to fall for it.
"I'm sorr-"
"Seeking forgiveness from an infidel?"
"Enough! I'm here to take you back and if you really want to spend the night here, up to you!"
"I'm staying here then."
Matthew had the urge to bang his head on the tree.
"If you are staying here, fine," He sat down in front of her. "I'm staying here too."
"Wasting your time doing nothing with a prostitute?"
"Don't call yourself that again-" He warned.
"Someone I respect a lot told me my worth, know that?"
Matthew sighed, she had taken his words seriously. Of course she'd take them seriously. It was about her reputation. Suddenly he saw Jenavive get up slowly, using one hand for support. "Where are you going?"
"Away from you."
His heart was cast into the deep abyss of hell, but when he saw her limp, he frowned in dismay. "Vive, what happened to your leg?"
"Nothing of your concern."
"That's it!" His patience was at its verge as he stood up swiftly, carrying her in bridal style. Jenavive let out a short scream in surprise.
"Mr. Reynard put me down!"
"Shut up."
"I can walk!"
"If you do not shut up I'm going to kiss you."
Jenavive blushed slightly before frowning and looking away. "Kiss a filthy mouth of an unchaste woman?"
Matthew was silenced by her words before he spoke softly, "You are not-"
She closed her ears, knowing that he was going to ask for forgiveness again.
'This woman will be the death of me'
------
Matthew entered the castle and quickly took her to their room. It was past two when he put her on the bed.
"I'll call the doctor."
"There is no need."
"Jenavive you are burning with fever."
She stood up. "I am completely fine. Mr. Reynard please- leave me alone."
"Stop being so stubborn."
"I'm not..." She trailed off, swaying slightly, back and forth before losing balance. Matthew caught her by the waist gracefully. She was warm, her face had grown pale while her pulse could be barely felt.
"Maria! Call the doctor immediately!" Matthew yelled on the top of his voice as he put Jenavive gently back on the bed. He stroked her hair softly, looking at her with concern.
He sighed. He knew it was his fault.
Few minutes later a tall lean doctor arrived, holding a small box. He checked Jenavive's temperature and pulse carefully.
"Hm... Her body needs water and food. She's weak and her fever is probably because she has spent too much time in the rain.... Her clothes are drenched. Make sure you change them immediately," The doctor gave him a green bottle of medicine. "Give this to her when she wakes up."
"Doctor, she has sprained her left wrist and ankle too."
"Oh?" The doctor immediately took out another bottle of red medicine, he took a little of the content and rubbed it on her her ankle and wrist before putting a gauze on them with care. "This will be fine in no time."
"Thank you, doctor."
"The pleasure is mine." He smiled courteously before leaving the room.
"Maria?"
"Yes, sire?"
"Where is, father?"
"In his chamber."
"Alright, I'll go meet him till you.. Um," Matthew blushed slightly and looked away. Maria smiled.
"I'll change her clothes right away, sire."
