chapter 5: say NO to awkwardness

KATHRYN'S POV :

lots of things happened to me and my new best friend Daniel. We had plenty of memories for these past months. And now all I have to worry about is that.....

It's already the last Saturday of December and we are to have a school activity.  It's the culmination for our homecoming king and queen. My mom and dad bought me a gown made by Pepsi Herrera. I could not believe how elegant and amazing it was.

The truffles, the sequences, and everything. It's just perfect and that it really suits me.

I was about to thank mom and dad...

when dad barged in and said...
'that gown is really worth every penny' he said and smiled.
'I know dad! thanks a lot! I love you guys!' I cheerfully said.

I embraced them and then my dad kissed my forehead but our group hug didn't take long because mom's hairdresser and make-up artist arrived.

Mom and dad then left in my room. And then at that very moment, the magic began.

it took 2 hours for them to beautify me.

at around 8:30 I went out of the room and went down at the staircase. Mom and dad keep on staring at me, they can't believe what the magic of make-up and hair did to me.

'sweetie! what did they do to you?' mom said.
'I look horrible, don't I? I dooonn-' I replied but dad spoke before me.
'you look amazing and absolutely stunning dear!' he said.

I started to blush because of the compliments.

I bid farewell to my parents and went outside waiting for the car.

in the car...

I texted my girlfriends if the program is starting but none of them replied. I know they are also getting ready for the program.

When I arrived exactly at 9 pm.

when I stepped down from the car, somebody grabbed my hand and helped out from the car.

it was Khalil, he was the one who stretched out a hand for me.

when I was passing through the carpet. You'll go loco for the cameras.

Flashes are everywhere it irritates me.

Khalik and I headed at our table, wherein my girlfriends are at. Tippy has her escort as well as Julia and Mitch. I haven't noticed Janella yet. So we waited for her. The boys at our table went to get a punch for us. So, the girls and I had a chat.

'Kath you look stunning! it isn't the usual you as we can see everyday' Julia said.
'whatever Julia. You're just flattering me.' I said.
'Guys, don't you know who's the escort of our beloved Janella?' Mitch barged at our conversation.
'do you have any idea Mitch?' Tippy questioned her.
'well, yeah! he's no other than Daniel! and here they are.' Mitch said.

I was surprised to see both of them. I was tight-lipped but I smiled at them and said...

'hi, best! hi Janella! you know what you'd really make a good couple!' I almost choked myself to death saying that.
'yeah! they really do!' Mitch and the others agreed.

my heart ached. It seems that somebody just hammered a nail at it. I lowered my head.

WHAT'S THIS! I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS KIND OF FEELING. IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS! ARGHHHHHH! NOOOOOO...NOOOO... I DON'T LOVE HIM RIGHT? NOOO, IT CAN'T BE! HE'S MY BESTFRIEND! WATCHING HIM WITH HER MAKES ME TEARY-EYED! THIS IS BULLSHIT! I HATE it

DANIEL'S POV :

It's the homecoming night. I took Janella as my partner. She accepted my offer. It's 2 minutes past 9 that she arrived. I escorted her as we enter the school. I heard my best friend's voice saying hi.

I just smiled at her and directly went to the comfort room.

I realized that slowly I had fallen in love with her. Used Janella because maybe? she would reject me if she knew.

I went back to our table, I only saw Janella, Tippy, and Mitch. I asked them if they saw Kath.

'excuse me, ladies, have you seen best?' I approached.
'oh, looking for his best! well, your best friend is at the powder room' Mitch said in return.

I was about to knock the door when I heard a cry. It was her MY BEST FRIEND. I heard Julia and Kath's conversation.

Kath: I don't know Jul! but I think I'm in love with my best friend. I know that he loves Janella and I know that.  He had gone head over heels over her. And it pains me every time I see them together. My heart turns into a rose and that I am pricked by its own thorns. I don't want him to know about this, because I know he would not feel the same and that this may ruin our friendship.
Jul: shhh! it's okay Kath. Everything's gonna be alright. okay, let's head to our table before they would worry about us.

I ran as fast as I can to get a punch. I can't believe what I just heard. As soon as I'm relieved I returned to the table.

I saw her smile and we caught ourselves looking towards each other. But she suddenly looked away.

It's time to announce the Homecoming king and queen.

emcee: and the homecoming king and queen is MS. KATHRYN BERNARDO AND MR. DANIEL PADILLA. Can we request the king and queen to be at the center of the dance floor to lead the dance?

I asked her hand and we directly went to the center floor. We started the dance and all I only saw her beauty. My beautiful best friend and my crush. I stared at her eyes but she always looks down. And then I asked her.

Daniel: best, what's wrong?
Kath: no, nothing best.
Daniel: I can't see the smile, I always see each and every day.
Kath: I'm really not in the mood right now best.

the night just then ended, we hadn't talked that serious. I just let go of her that night. And directly went home. I didn't even mind when mom asked if how was my night. I rushed to my room and locked my door, changed my clothes, and head to sleep.

What's wrong with her? is it just me or her? I hope we could fix this soon.
