Present day

May 2016

I felt the camera focus on my face as the interviewer prepared to ask me questions. I had just settled down in the armchair on stage of a talk show after being introduced by the overly tanned host whose teeth were so white I was almost blinded.

"So, Edie" he began. "It is a pleasure to have you here!" Before I could pretend the pleasure was all mine and reply, he started firing of questions and I tuned out letting my mouth run on auto play. Yes I was going to take a break from touring, and maybe work on new music. No, I didn't know when. No I would not be making an acting debut...

I may only have been 25 but I had been doing this for almost ten years, and as per usual I had been given the opportunity to look over the questions before hand to be able to prepare witty answers. Not that I bothered anyway. Instead I started thinking about what I would do when I got out of there. I owed it to my mother to give her a call, and maybe I would be able to go out for a beer with some friends I hadn't seen for along time.

It wasn't until he started asking me questions about Noel that I woke up from making plans for that evening. "Could you repeat that" I asked startled raising my eyebrow to give the interviewer an annoyed look. We had agreed on no personal question, like always before granting an interview I made sure they wouldn't ask any uncomfortable questions.

"I asked if you had listened to Noels new solo record, there is a song on it rumored to be about your break up". He repeated with a smug smile, completely unfazed by my clear annoyance.

"I wasn't even aware he had released anything new" I lied smoothly, of course I knew. "However I doubt the song you are referring to would have anything to do with me, mine and Noels split was amicable and unlike some people he respects my privacy." Of course none of that was true either, even if I hadn't talked with Noel for almost a year I was almost a 100% sure his entire new album was about me.

After all we had crashed and burned as a couple.
