I close the door quietly. Mom is still lying in her bed, I can smell the smoke of her cigarettes out of her room and see her legs dangling from the bed.

I didn't notice, I held my breath in, but as I make my way to the door, next to Mom's room, I shakily let it out. I tiptoe to the dark wooden floor and slowly open it.

It's dark.

"Granny?" I whisper-shout. I get no answer. "Granny."

I hear her gasp, as she wakes up and I chuckle a little, slowly closing the door behind me.

Granny sits up in her bed. I feel her still sleepy gaze on my form.

It is quiet for a while.

Then I grin widely and jump with a squeal on her bed. She immediately snickers and embraces me tightly.

"Can't sleep, bunny? Or just missed me so much?" she asks me with a small laughter. I just giggle again and lie down beside her, my gaze fixed on the ceiling.

It grows quiet, as she also lies down next to me with an exhausted sigh.

"Granny, I'm nervous." I mutter, while fiddling with my fingers.

She turns around to me with a cocky expression on her face. "Huh? My sassy baby bunny is afraid of meeting new people? They better be afraid of meeting you!"

I giggle.

"Just be your normal self and they'll like you for sure. Or... be a little less your normal self. Just be friendly, okay?" she sighs out, making me grin.

"I bet, you will find a bunch of new friends tomorrow. Who could resist my little baby bunny?"

"Yeah, but... this time I don't know anyone here."

Or maybe I do.

I think of the guy, who just saved my life half an hour ago. Maybe he's around my age. Maybe we attend the same school.

I shuffle in the bed. "Granny, can I sleep here tonight?"

"Of course, my darling. But you better not steal me my pillow or throw me off the bed again, like the last time."

She playfully glares at me and I start shoving her. She laughs silently and embraces me again.

I drift off to sleep.

The next morning I wake up and immediately push myself off the bed. Granny groans, as I sprint towards the door, open it in a haste and make my way to the bathroom.

I stop, when I see mom. She doesn't look that great. She is sitting on the kitchen counter, sipping her coffee. Her hair is all messed up and she is shaking.

"Mommy?" I say quietly. I slowly step forward, not wanting to make her flinch. She just breathes out loudly.

"Please just go", she pleads. She rubs her shaking head on her forehead.

She looks broken.

She needs her pills.

"Mom" I say again, louder this time.

I kinda know, what happens next. I knew it the second, before I called her.

She grabs my collar, making me almost gasp. She doesn't give me a single glance when she pulls me closer. The other hand closing around my wrist.
