Chapter 13: The Call
It's been a week since Tina and I brought the voice recording to the police. They haven't done anything about it yet. They haven't called us in for questioning. We also haven't heard from Rob since the night he was over. So you could say it was calm and uneventful. I haven't had a day like that for awhile. After a couple of days it started to get boring and I needed something to do. Brandon finally had to take me to the store just so I had something to do. Then that weekend he took me to the movies. That was the exact same day we got the call.
We where sitting in the living room when the landline started ringing.
"Hello?" I asked answering the phone.
"Hello. Is this Tay? We need to talk to her about Officer Rob." The caller said.
"This is her." I stated
"We have seem to have gotten a recording of Officer Rob not denying he helped you by giving you the tracker. We would like you to come in and give a statement. When will you be able to come in?" The Officer asked.
"I can come in after school." I told him.
"Thank you for your cooperation. We will see you soon, Tay." The Officer said then hung up the phone.
I looked at the clock, 7:12. We better get going or we were going to be late to school. I nudged Brandon with my elbow.
"What?" He mumbled sleep still evident in his voice.
"Time to go to school, but since your still tired we'll take my car." I said standing up.
"Fine." He said reluctantly.
We got to the car in silence. I hopped in then realized I forgot my phone on the coffee table. I quickly ran in and grabbed it. I heard some voices coming from the kitchen. I listened just a little bit.
"When will they call Tay. They called us when they got the recording. Why would they put her through so much stress? Are they making sure that it's real and not a fake?" I heard Brenda say to someone in the room with her.
"I don't know. We aren't the police. They must have their reasons." Brandons' dad said, I just couldn't seem to remember his name.
"I'm just worried about her that's all. I wish they would hurry up, so she can try and have a somewhat regular highschool year. This is her last year and she hasn't been able to have fun, go to football games, go to dances, and have dates. Hopefully Brandon will man up and ask her to Prom. I heard tickets will be sold soon. So hopefully he'll stop being such a chicken and ask the girl. We all know he loves her.-" She was cut off from her ranting by her husband.
"Honey, please take a breath. I know she has been through a lot, but it will be over soon. Ok?" He reassured her.
That was my que to leave. I grabbed my phone and closed the door slowly. I ran to the car and slammed the door shut when I got in. Brandon jumped when I did. I started the engine and pulled out of the driveway. All the while Brandon stared at me. I looked at him oddly. He just shook his head and stayed silent. I wonder what goes on in that boys mind sometimes. He is a strange one, but he's ok. After about fifteen minutes we pull into the school parking lot. There was still a pleasant silence throughout the car. Finally I parked and was about to get out when Brandon grabbed my wrist.
"What took you so long when you were only grabbing one thing?" He asked me.
"I couldn't find it. That's all." I lied. I was inwardly smiling, but to him I kept a straight face.
He seemed to buy it, because he let it go, and my wrist, and got out of the car. I grabbed my stuff and got out. I made my way in the school and Brandon had his arm slung over my shoulders. I found Tina instantly and Josh was there trying to get her attention, but was failing badly. Tina made her way over completely ignoring Josh and his attempts at getting her number. It was quiet amusing. Finally, Brit was at my locker waiting for me like usual. She seemed not as perky.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"I got a call from the Police Department today. Did anyone else?" She asked looking at all of us.
"I got one. I told them I would come in after school to talk." I said.
"I got a call too. Told them, like you, I would come in after school." Tina said.
"So everyone got one?" Brit asked.
We all nodded in agreement.
The day went by fast up until lunch. That's when things started to get a little slow. I hung out with my friends and ate some bad food that was about as healthy as eating McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a week. You could tell everyone was antsy for after school. But of course that wasn't enough. We had to have a practice fire drill and tornado drill today. Luckily the tornado drill was during math. I don't care that much for that class. Don't get me wrong I was good at the class, just it was too easy.
Finally, the end of the day bell rang and everyone met up at our cars.
"We will all go to the Police Department now and see what happens. I'll see you guys there. Bye." Brit said making her way to her car.
I pulled into the Police Department parking lot and got out with Brandon right on my heels. I pushed open the door and walked right up to the secretary. I stood there and smiled at her innocently.
"How may I help you today?" She asked sweetly.
"I got a call from someone saying I'm wanted for questioning." I said plainly. I just wanted to get this over with. I'm kinda done being told to come here,
"Aw. Are you Tina Braiders?" She asked.
"No. I'm Tay Peters." I told her.
"Ok. Come this way please." She instructed. Brandon was going to come with, but stopped in his tracks. "Sir, I would like to ask you to please stay out here and wait for your girlfriend to come out." She told him. He sighed and found a chair.
We walked to a room. When we got to the door I was told to walk in and take a seat. I did as I was instructed to do. After a couple minutes an Officer came in and sat in the seat across from me. I sighed and looked at him bored.
"I can see I have already bored you. I'm sorry to see that." He said looking at me.
"I just want to get this over with. That's all." I said as sweet as I could.
"My apologies, I didn't introduce myself. I am Officer Johnsen. You must be Tay." Officer Johnsen said.
"Hello Johnsen. Can we please get in with this? I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but I sent the recording a week ago and you guys are now getting to us. Isn't that kinda overkill?" I said.
"I know, and I apologize for us. We should have been atop of this right away." He said.
"Thank you." Was all I said.
"So since you want to get on with this lets start. What equipment did you use to get your parents caught?" Johnsen asked.
