Chapter 14: A Letter from the Officer

"I used a tracker Officer Rob gave me." I said plainly.

"When did he give it to you?" Officer Johnsen asked.

"When my parents first broke into the school." I said.

We were going through the questions with ease and it was really slow. As soon as the first couple of questions were done he started to want more description in each answer.

"How does it work?" He asked.

"There is two buttons on it. One turns on the locator, while the other turns on the signal. You press the locator first. After a red light starts flashing you press the signal button. You hold it for thirty seconds then let go." I explained looking him straight in the eye.

"Ok. So why did you use it?" He asked the most stupid question.

"So my parents could go to jail. You don't want them on the streets still right?" I asked him.

"Well..no." He said.

"Anymore questions? Or do you have enough?" I asked him quirking an eyebrow.

"I think we have enough for know. Have a nice day Tay." Officer Johnsen said.

He got up and opened the door motioning for me to leave. I got the hint and got up. I walked into the waiting area to see Tina, Brit, and Brandon talking. They hadn't noticed I got out yet, so I walked up behind Brandon. I stood there for a second to make sure he hadn't noticed me. I then put my hands over his shoulders.

"Hi." I said and put my hands on his shoulders. That small action made him jump a foot or too in the air.

We all started laughing except Brandon. He didn't find it as amusing. He shot glares at me. I smiled at him innocently. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me around the chair. I reluctantly came in front of him. He pulled me closer to him and gave me a quick kiss.

"Take it to another room please." Brit mocked.

"Calm yourself. It's not liked you haven't kissed me before." Brandon smirked.

She blushed then glared at him. I laughed at her easy blush.

"I wouldn't do it again in a heartbeat." She tried to say as a come back.

"Yeah, because if you did I would slap some sense into you." I say sweetly.

"I feel the love." She muttered.

"Love you too." I smile.

"Are you two love birds done?" Tina mocked.

"Yes, yes we are." Brandon said.

"She meant Brit and I." I laughed.

He looked like he was still registering what I just said. We all laughed at his struggle.

"Can you four please leave? This is a police station, not a teen hang out." The secretary said.

"I'm sorry. We are just leaving." I said kindly.

We left holding in our laughter. We didn't want to get into more trouble. As soon as the doors were closed we all started laughing again. Brandon looked at us confused still. A few seconds later his face lit up.

"Took you long enough." Brit said rolling her eyes.

"Whatever. Lets just go." He mumbled and got into the truck.

He slammed the door shut and slumped in the seat. I rolled my eyes at his childishness. I looked over at my friends and just shrugged. We all just looked at each other and then left with a knowing look. We would all meet up at Brandons house and hang out there hoping for a call tonight.

We all hopped into our designated vehicles then started our engines and revved off. About twenty minutes later of arguing over the radio station we made it to his house. I turned the engine off and got out. When I got inside no one was home. Brandon walked in right after me. Brit and Tina showed up a few minutes later. We all sat down watching mindless TV. I was fine until there was a knock on the door. Tina got up to see who it was. She came back with something in her hands. She handed it to me. It was an envelope. All that was on it was my name.

I opened it. There was only a piece of paper inside.

It read:
Dear Tay,
When you get this you will be back from the police station. They are going to send me to jail, if they agree that your statements are true. I want to justify myself. I was in need of a job a few years back, that's when I met your parents, both yours and Tina's. My parents knew Tina's parents for years. That's why I knew about her. When I met your parents I was in need of some money. They took me in and gave me a part time job helping with experiments. Soon I had enough money to go to the Police Academy. Once I got a job as an Officer your parents wanted protection. They didn't want to get caught, so I helped them. After they found out that someone called the police they were scared. They didn't want to go to jail. They blamed you for it. They thought it was all your fault. That they got caught. They thought you were a terrible child, but I saw you a few times when I was helping. You were so sweet and innocent. I didn't understand why they thought that. When the call came in that they were wanted, I wanted to protect you. I just didn't want them sent to jail. They helped me through tough times. I was grateful, so when they got sent to jail I was livid. I thought they wouldn't trust me again. So I tried to make it seem like you did something you weren't supposed to. I'm sorry it had to come to this. I hope your life isn't full of destruction like your parents, but I have a promise to uphold. I am going to get them out. One way or another they will be freed. Keep your eyes on the news Tay.

Sincerely,
Robert

I read it and read it again. Everyone was looking at me curiously. They were trying to understand if it was good or bad. I finally handed it over to Tina. She read it aloud for everyone to hear. When she was done everyone looked worried. We didn't know what to do. Either he was going to send me to jail or break my parents out. Either way this wasn't good. All we had to do was wait for the call. We also need to bring this letter to the Station. I grabbed the letter and ran out the door. Nobody followed me.

When I pulled into the station I was shaking from anticipation. I ran into the waiting room and ran up to the Secretary.

"Where is Officer Johnsen?" I asked breathlessly.

"Down that hall, take a left. The room on the right side." She said pointing.

"Thank you." I said running in that direction.

I made it to the room. I knocked on the door and pulled it open.

"Hello?" I heard him say.

"Hello. I have something for you. It might help with the Officer Rob situation." I said handing him the letter.

"Umm. What is it?" He asked.

"Just read it." I instructed.

He did as I said and after a few minutes he looked up at me. I was a little scared to see what he had to say. I looked at him with anticipation.

"I think this will do." Was all he said.

"What? What do you mean? Am I fine? Am I free? Should I be-" I was cut off by Officer Johnsen replying.

"You will be fine. This evidence will declare you were right and Rob fired." He explained.
