Chapter 2:
Damien groans and I pretend to be annoyed. It's Jake Coopers car. D hates Jake, so I've never told him about my secret crush on him. If you think that's my darkest secret, you're terribly wrong. We park and get out of the car. Jake is going to the same restaurant as us which is killing D, but we go there anyway. I'm starting to feel sort of sick. Jake and his date walk over to us. The girl he's with is a typical Redwood girl; blond, pretty, and of course is in love with Jake, "Hey!"
"What is it Jake?" I ask pretending to be impatient, though I'm absolutely thrilled he's talking to me. Damien stands protectively beside me.
"Well we were wondering if you guys would come to the movies with us. After dinner of course."
I roll my eyes and laugh, since when was he speaking to me? "Like on a double date? I don't think so."
"This is my sister," he says. Oops, well that explains the same blond hair. My face feels hot.
"Oh."
Damien steps in, "Actually Carly has a 10:00 curfew. And seeing it's already 9:30, I think I'd better bring her home."
We walk away and get into the car. I laugh, "Wow thanks D."
"No problem, wanna go to Central Park."
"Sure."

We are walking around Central Park, talking about who knows what. Damien is so sweet, I feel bad about keeping my secrets from him. All that's on my mind is Jake, which makes me feel worse. D and I find a bakery and share a big black and white cookie. I've never had one before. Our conversation turns out to be about secrets and D offers to tell him his biggest if I tell him mine. I agree, me being naturally curious. He laughs and claims I won't believe him. I dread telling him my secret. We walk out of the bakery, towards D's car.
"Ok, do you believe in vampires?"
I laugh, "Sure."
"Well.... I hunt them." My heart stops, and my knees go weak. I collapse on the ground.
