I didn't notice

My mind was pulled from its drunken blur as headlights bounced off the kitchen wall. The sound of tyres on the gravel outside made my heart beat faster. It was him. He had come back. I knew he wouldn't just leave. I staggered to my feet. It was occurring to me how drunk I was. I flung open the door. I knew I looked crazy. Running out to that car smiling, tear stains streaked down my face. Wearing nothing but a big tshirt and shorts. His tshirt. I ran to the car, I didn't even care. I didn't care that all manner of bugs were likely to fly into the house. I didn't care that my feet were probably being ripped to shreds by the sharp stones under foot. I just needed him to tell me everything was gonna be ok.  I didn't even notice that the car wasn't a mustang.

The car door opened. My heart was thumping wildly.  I stood rooted to the floor just a few meters back.

Lucy fell out the car. She looked at me, her eyes brimming with tears. "Run!" She screamed. Her voice filled with so much pain. I notice now how her hands were tired behind her back. I notice now that the car it actually a Mercedes. I notice now the van pulling up behind it. I see the people in white coming towards me. "Run!" Her broken voice calls out to me again. Bring me back to the Present. I turn and run towards the house. "Dora!" I yell desperately "Dora hide. Hide and don't come out now till the cars have gone." I tell her as she turns to run "I love you" I whisper. I grab the gun from the draw next to the front door. Please god don't let them be armed. I start firing as the White monsters charge towards the house. The first few fall easily.  I maybe able to fend them off. Lucy remained on the floor next to the car.
More people run at me. I was so busy focusing on the people that were approaching the cabin rapidly, I didn't notice the man. I didn't notice the way he levelled his gun. I didn't notice the way he had the gun was pointed directly at me. Lucy did though. She screamed. I look to here. Panic written clearly across his face. Followed but the sharp pinch in my leg. I looked down, the dart was poking out my upper thigh. I woozy feeling  began to come over me, spreading though my body.  I fired a few more shots, as if it would make a difference before the world descended into darkness.
