Elodie

We had been searching for Christine for an hour before Madame Giry suddenly stopped us, and told us to go to bed.

"But Madame, what about Christine?"

She sighed,

"I have a good idea where she is."

We waited for her to continue, but she just walked back to her office.

Meg looked at me, confused,

"What was that about?"

"I don't know, Meg. Your mother is probably right, we should get some rest."

I walked her back to the dormitory where she stayed. As soon as we opened the door, we saw Joseph Buquet.

"And he has a magical lasso that he uses to kill his victims. Under his mask lies the face of a devil, twisted and deformed! "

He took the lasso he was holding, and caught one of the youngest girls, and pretend to eat her. She whimpered and tried to run. He smirked, and pulled her closer. Oh God, he was groping her.

I scoffed, and crept up behind him. Right as he was about to kiss her, I turned him around and kneed him in the groin.

"Ugh! What the 'ells the matter with ya? I was just havin' some fun!"

"Well, from what I saw, this girl did not want to have some 'fun' with you. If you ever wish to have 'fun', get some manners, and go back to your wife! If you go near Emmy again, I'll show you what I think is fun, and trust me when I say that you won't like it. Now go back to whatever corner you crawled out of!"

He scampered out the door, whimpering. Emmy threw her arms around me, and sobbed.

"Oh darling, don't cry! He won't hurt you again. I made sure of it!"

She smiled, and skipped to her bed. Meg looked at me proudly,

"How do you do it?"

I sighed, wishing that I didn't have such an audience,

"I have some history of dealing with swine like him. "

"Can you tell us some stories?"

I smile, remembering the fun parts of life on the ship,

"Of course! Once there was a lady, she was the most beautiful woman for miles and miles. A judge saw her, and fell in love with her. He did everything to win her heart, but she was already in love with a sailor who had very little. The sailor was the kindest lad there ever was, and the fiercest warrior. When judge found out about this sailor, he got very mad. "

Emmy suddenly sat up, with fear in her eyes,

"What did the judge do?"

"Well, the judge decided that he was going to kidnap the woman, and force her to marry him. But the sailor got there first, and took the lady with him on his ship. They had a little girl, and she was the happiest girl in the world because she had the two most amazing parents in the world. And they lived happily ever after."

The girls clapped, and Emmy sighed,

"I wish I could have someone as kind as that sailor."

My heart broke at this comment,

"You will, when you grow up, you can have your own sailor, and you'll live happily ever after. "

She sighed, content, and fell back onto her pillow.

"Goodnight, Elodie!"

"Goodnight, Emmy. And goodnight to you girls too!"

I walk out, and go to my room. I was a pretty lucky girl. I had my very own room. I didn't have to share with anyone, but it also reminded me how I had gotten that room.

I shuddered slightly, and flopped down on my bed. I remembered the day I first saw Opera Populaire like it was yesterday,

It was a chilly evening, Papa and I had just gotten to Paris from America. Papa and I had 10 francs between us. That was only enough for about two nights at the cheapest inn. "Papa, why can't we go back to the ship?" He smiled down at me sadly. "A mean old man wants to find us, but we can't let him find us." "Papa, what about Mama?" He sighed sadly, "Mama will be watching over us as we hide." I followed him to the inn and we got a room in the back. "Go to sleep darling, all will be better in the morning. " He quickly fell asleep, but I couldn't I sleep. I crept out the room, and walked around the streets. That's when I saw it. The Opera Populaire. It stood shining in the middle of the street. I stared at it for a few seconds, before approaching it. A man was on the steps. He had a scruffy beard, and red eyes. I backed away quickly, but not fast enough. "Hey there, little lady, have you come for some money?" I turned around at the mention of money. "Money?"
The man grinned, revealing rotten teeth. "Come over here, and I'll give it to you." I walked over, not realizing what he wanted. He grabbed me, and covered my mouth. "Quiet, love, I'll let you scream later." I cried and tried screaming as he violated me. He made a mistake, and uncovered my mouth for a moment. "HELP!!!" The man snarled, and slapped me. "Nobody can hear you." Suddenly, and boy about 16 appeared. He had a white mask covering the left side of his face. "Now that's no way to treat a lady, is it?" He threw the man off of me, and beat him up. I crawled away, with all my pride stripped from me. The boy stopped me, and handed me something. "Here, little madame, this should help you." He gave me a bag, I looked inside, and saw gold. I stared at him, before giving him a hug. "Thank you, Monsieur." He smiled, "No problem. " He walked away, and I crawled back to the inn. I shook my father awake. "Papa, I have money!"
