Gray mulled over Brightflash's words and realized he was right. If they didn't defeat Kozalexaiya, Erza would die, and they would go down with her. It was something too awful to comprehend, so Gray turned his thoughts elsewhere. He and Natsu went over possible plans, while Lucy talked with Brightflash.
"Brightflash, do you think we have a shot at winning?" asked Lucy.
"I do," he responded. "I think that if your sheer will and determination don't beat him, your spirit will. You have more at stake, and you are fighting for something you believe in, whilst he is fighting simply for revenge. You have a greater cause, and I have come to see that sometimes, that makes all the difference."
Lucy found solace in his words, and went to join her teammates as they struggled to find a way to beat the demon. Even back on Earth, their attacks had done nothing, but now the demon would be twice as strong, since he was fighting in his own realm. The wizards realized all they could do was wait for the demon, and fight it to the last. All they had to lose was their lives, and that they would gladly lose fighting for Erza. They decided to wait it out and hope for the best. When they demon came, they would throw themselves at it until either it died or they did, but they wouldn't go down without a fight, and if they fell, they would bring all they could down with them.
The demon came, and it with it came all hell. It knew they were there--it could sense them. But they didn't care. Gray came first.
He screamed at the demon, "ICE MAKE: UNLIMITED MAGIC!"
The demon screamed back. Although the demon seemed unfazed, he could see a cut on its arm. His strongest attack had done little damage, but at least it was something. The demon, they now knew, was not invincible.
Natsu morphed into his dragon form, and threw every dragon slayer secret art attack he knew at it. The demon fell back, wounded, but barely. Lucy came next. All of her spirits knew how important this was to her, and they all came to her aid, using their own magic so she wouldn't wear herself out. They fought until they were too weak to stay in that realm, and the demon had nothing more than a few bruises. It was at that moment that the wizards began to lose hope. It was at that moment that the unthinkable happened. It was at that moment that a certain someone came to their aid, bestowing upon them a debt they would never be able to repay.
