The thing that beckoned Gray nearer and nearer with each melodic word was a small crystal floating in the center of a gazebo-like structure that seemed to be protecting it with a magical barrier, sheltering it from all possible harm. The crystal was glowing, and it seemed to be brighter than the sun, but at the same time the glow was soft and welcoming. The harshness of the light only emphasized the crystal's brilliance, and the softness only pulled Gray closer. But there was a darker side of the crystal. Somehow, the crystal was pure white, but still glowed in every color of the rainbow, and the blinding brightness did nothing to stop the pitch-black shadows being cast in every direction. It seemed to Gray as if one moment it was holy, the next evil, the next too much to comprehend, but each time, it felt as though it had been like that all along.

Gray approached the crystal and reached out to touch it, as it sang its song full of promises of love. But at the last second, the thought of love reminded him of why he was there--to save Erza. He didn't have time to be chasing false promises and going after misleading and strange objects in the demon realm, now or ever. He snapped out of his trance and pulled his teammates along, pushing the crystal to the back of his mind.

But the crystal wasn't done with him. It would continue to haunt him, night and day, in every one of his thoughts and dreams, for as long as it took until he came back to finish what he started. The crystal had never lost a victim, and it certainly wasn't about to start.
