"Happy one week anniversary Angel" I raise my glass of sparkling water to Beth's and she smiles.
"Uh uh, I didn't ask you to be my boyfriend till Sunday. You're a day early" she giggles
"No I'm not, you were mine the second I kissed you. We both know it" I challenge and her blush is beautiful.
"Which kiss are we walking about? On the dance floor or the naughty one later in the penthouse?"
"Both, either. The one on the dance floor opened your heart to me, the other well, opened your mm mmm" my words are cut off with a dinner roll stuffed into my mouth.
"Oh my god Jace, shh" Beth laughs embarrassed and shy.
"Hey you brought it up" I chuckle chewing my mouthful.
"I miss you already" she sighs.
"Have an early night, I'll be home before you know it"
God I love that she misses me.
"I think I will, I just need to rub down the pig and inject the moisture before going to bed" she tells me like sticking a syringe into a dead pig is normal.
"I didn't realise the pork took so much work, you could of made something else" I apologise
"Nope, you said your dad will love me and I want him to love me. I love your family Jace" she tells me stubborn and picks up her cutlery.
Beth has cooked me dinner before work I can't lie, I love that she did. It feels like something a family would do.
"We're a lot to handle, but I wouldn't change any of my sisters" I smile.
"Oh my god, Jess. She keeps tagging me in pictures of naked cowboys, I had to scroll for almost five minutes the other day to see anything other than leather boots and oiled abs she is definitely NSFW" she laughs
"Huh?" I frown.
"Not safe for work?" Beth explains smirking at me
"Sorry I don't live with texting teenage girls, I'll ask her to stop if you don't like it" I offer as I dig into my spaghetti carbonara.
"No it's fine, she hasn't done it for a while. I kept tagging her in photos of naked fireman, then pictures of birthday cakes" she laughs wicked and cheeky and I can't help it, I laugh with her.
"Oh my Angel is good, you are one of us already. You will love Jess, she is the female version of me. I don't know how my mother managed the both of us"
"I noticed"
"Tell me about your family, how do I make your dad love me?"
I need tomorrow to go well for me
"Do you smoke? Like cigars? He loves a good cigar and a scotch, he loves anything with a motor in it but if he asks you I am never riding on your bike, like ever. He loves them but he loves me more, boys with bikes were never allowed. Uh... what else? Once a month he holds a poker night, Amber is his favourite so it wouldn't hurt to tell him how awesome she is and he is allergic to shellfish" she tells me tapping her nails on the table like she is thinking hard.
"I don't love cigars but I can handle one every now and again, Coop has a box of fancy scotch at work for special occasions and I know he would be good with me gifting one to your father. He and my dad can have a drink after lunch. I hate all seafood, can't even stand the smell. He is going to have to deal with the fact that Amber is not my favourite and listen to me tell him how awesome his other daughter is, should I bring my bike home tonight? It's very shiny and impressive" I ask.
"I didn't know you didn't like seafood, neither do I. We never had it a lot growing up and I never got a taste for it afterwards. The fish cases in the supermarket makes me gag. Dad might want you to drink with him if the guys are throwing a few back, would you want to tell them you don't drink?"
"Would I blow it if I did? It's not really a good first impression and something I don't come out with as an introduction unless I'm at a meeting" I frown hating the need for this conversation.
"We are driving tomorrow, tell my father my safety is your top priority and you will earn bonus points" she smiles easy.
"That's the truth Angel, you are very precious to me" I tell her.
"No bike yet, if you have pictures he would love to see them. Maybe we should pick up Coop's car before lunch, he will drool over that thing. But I'm not allowed to drive it, girls are meant to be girls. Men are the masters, women are worshiped but are expected to treat their men like kings" she rolls her eyes.
"Sounds right to me" I smirk earning me a mushroom tossed in my direction.
"My mother is easy, she loves being a mother and a wife. She doesn't work but volunteers at the library reading to children and after school tutoring for kids who can't read. She loves to shop, I know a shocker right? And will talk your head off if you ask her opinion on anything decor related, seriously if you asked her if she likes my plain white cushions it will lead into a two hour conversation on the different shades of white and why you can never mix them together. Don't even mention the word houndstooth in earshot, she hates it with a passion, you would think houndstooth was responsible for the world wars" she babbles and I'm getting a clear picture in my head, I smile.
"So she is you on crack" I tease.
"Yes Masters, she is me on crack. I do realise the Apple hasn't fallen far" her smile is so pretty.
"Then I will love her"
"And she will love you" Beth's hand covers mine on the table and my heart aches I feel so much love.
"How do you feel after your massage?" I ask to distract me from thoughts of her dinner table fantasy.
"So good, your hands are hotter than the flames of hell. You are definitely going to regret this day, I won't let you forget the promise of the anytime honey"
"I hope you don't, you can't get a happy ending like that at the day spa" I wink.
"No you really can, it just costs extra" she giggles and I toss a strand of spaghetti at her.
