Ellington POV
I knock softly on Rydel's window. Her brunette hair turns over to show her tear stained face. I wait for her to open the window but it never happens.
I stand there it seemed forever and we stared at each other in silence. I knew she could see me, and I knew she knew I could see her.
This was the last time I ever saw Rydel for three years until today.
In the newspaper.
August 9th 2016
Twenty one year old Rydel Lynch found overdosed in her bedroom late Monday evening when her brother Riker Lynch came home from serving in the army.
Rydel's family wants to keep silent with their responses at this time.
I let the newspaper fall to the ground as tears came running down my cheeks. I never got to say goodbye.
I never got to know what happened that night between us.
I never got to tell her I loved her.
We were supposed to be broken together.
I let myself get a glass plate and smash it against the counter making sharp ends of glass collide into my hand.
"Ellington! Ellington! What's wrong?" My mom comes storming in and I sit on the ground with my hands in front of my face.
"Leave me alone!" I yell avoiding her question on purpose. Her hand comes to my shoulder and I scream louder. "Leave me alone!"
"Ellington-"
"RYDEL IS DEAD MOM! I LOVED HER! SHE CAN'T EXPECT ME TO BE OKAY!" I scream at her as I get up from the ground.
My mom has tears in her eyes from me.
I grab my coat and run out the door into the rain. I need to get to her.
~
The Lynchs' were silent when I stormed into their house. Rydel's mother looked as if she saw a ghost appear when she saw me.
I run into her room to see everything was left in place where she left it. The pill bottle was still on the floor. Her notebook opened on her bed with a pink glittery pen.
I let my eyes run on the page.
I haven't found a drop of you.
I haven't found a drop.
I'm just an addict with a pen.
I bite my lip knowing what song she was referring to.
It was on her playlist.
It's the last thing that her words are alive in.
