shattered dreams

I finally got to date
the guy i always
wanted turns out
he's not who I
thought he was
I guess it wasn't
meant to be
I guess this dream
was never supposed
to come true
but it's okay
sometimes these things
just don't work
out and sometimes
we just have to let go of all
these shattered dreams
and hope that we can find new
ones to follow tomorrow
it's no use trying to pick up
all the broken pieces and put
them back together when
you know it'll never work out
just hang on to the rest of your life, move on to the next chapter but whatever you do
don't hold on to those shattered dreams
because you'll end up
crying on a stairwell wishing
you could turn back time
wondering if things could be different
wishing he would call
hoping one day he'll change his mind
but it's a false hope, it's a pointless wish
shattered dreams are nothing but trouble
let's let them go high into the sky
then we can start cleansing our worried hearts
and get over whatever didn't happen
and have a better life
why hold on to a dream
when you know it won't come true
that's why it's better to let them go
if they've already been shattered
just let them be shattered dreams
and never look back
shattered dreams weren't meant to come true
shattered dreams are like shards of broken glass
shattered dreams can break a young girl's heart
so let's let go of all those shattered dreams
