Beep! Beep! Beep!

I rolled over and slammed my hand on the alarm clock that was laying on my night stand. I sat up and rubbed my left eye. I pulled the covers off of my body and stood up, I looked around at my almost empty room. My mom and I were leaving for New York today. My mom got a new job offer and she took it, sadly. I really like Kentucky. All of my friends are here and I've never been in a big city like New York. I quickly changed into a pair of black ripped jeans, a white Nirvana tee shirt, and black Vans. Then I folded up the rest of my clothes on the bed and put the rest of my things into a box and set it outside in the hallway. I could hear my mom talking to the moving company outside and I pushed the box to the foot of the stairs along with the covers I had folded up.

"Jessica! Are you awake?" called my mother.

"Yeah." I said walking into the bathroom. I put my hair into a braid and put my make up into a small back pack and turned out the bathroom light.

I went to my room and looked sorry at the empty white walls. I sighed and shut the door behind me. I carried the boxes down to the car passing my mom. She didn't say anything but I could tell that she didn't want to leave. I slammed the back of the car shut and sat in the back seat. I watched as the movers finally put the last of the furniture into the moving van and my mom got into the drivers seat of the car. She glanced at me through the mirror.

I didn't look back at her, yeah I wasn't happy about leaving Kentucky but I wasn't excited about moving to New York either. I leaned against the window and closed my eyes. I woke up the the sound of my mother yelling at me a few hours later.

"Jess, wake up!" exclaimed my mom. I opened my eyes and sat up. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. I looked out of the window as we where crossing over the bridge to Manhattan. My mother and I had one thing in common, we both loved water. Especially the ocean. I stared out at the blue ocean below us in awe.

Once we crossed over the bridge completely, I looked up at the enormous buildings that loomed over us. I could hear the constant honking of car horns and police sirens. My mother drove for what felt like twenty minutes before we reached our destination.

"Now Jess, before you can say anything, this new house costs a lot of money and it may not be what you hoped." said my mom turning carefully into a parking space. I looked at her and nodded silently.

When my mom put the car in park, I quickly got out. What hit me first was the smell of the city, it smelled horrible. The smell was mostly fumes from the constant traffic but it had a mix of street venders. My mother led me to the entrance of the pent house we would be living in for God knows how long. When we reached the tenth floor, we where greeted by a man in a fancy suit. He introduced himself as Bartleby, he was our butler. I smiled and waved at the man and brushed pass him and opened the doors to my new home. It was huge.

"What do you think?" ask my mom as the movers came inside and put the furniture together.

"It's amazing." I said beginning to explore the different rooms. When I found mine, I told the movers not to put my bed suit against the wall yet because I was planning on painting the walls myself. I stepped out onto the balcony that looked over the streets.

I hadn't realized how dark it had gotten. When I came back inside the movers had left and my mom was passed out in her room. I shut my door and laid down on my bed staring up at the ceiling unable to sleep.
