Who am I?
For some, it's a simple question.
For others, not so much.
Who you are isn't defined
By your name or your family or your heritage.
Who you are is something much more complicated.
It's a twist of everything from your hobbies to your enemies.
Who you are isn't necessarily who you want to be,
Because past mistakes are included,
Along with your future.
Finding yourself, finding who you truly are inside,
Is not always an easy task.
For those who wear a mask,
It's near impossible.
When you're never allowed to show the real you,
You become a robot.
Living for other people;
Excelling where they want you to;
Following orders.
Being the perfect daughter.
But, at times, it's hard to be so perfect.
Nobody's perfect.
But you want to be.
You want to be perfect.
You want to fix everything for everybody.
You blame yourself for their problems.
And you retreat farther and farther into yourself,
Cutting off the world and not letting anyone in.
But,
No matter these challenges,
You will find out who you are.
But accepting that
Might be the biggest challenge of all.
