Geography, Second Period.

John walked down the corridor at school, head bowed low in case anyone took an accidental swing at him, or more so on purpose. John wasn’t that popular, but that was the least of his current worries.

As he walked down the corridor, he felt someone push him in the shoulder.

“Watch it, Brain boy!” called some kid down the hall, who then laughed with his friends.

He tried being inconspicuous, but it never seemed to work. He was tall for his age and quite lanky too. So he always stood out in a crowd, and he hated it.

He lived in a flat by himself, with the money that was given to him as inheritance. The rest of his family had died, and he was out.

A bitter feeling came to the back of his throat as he recalled the memory.

Either way, he had made his way to the classroom for Geography, second period. He put his books down in the back corner desk, just by the window.

He liked it there, because looking out the window was generally better than having to endure Geography, because he thought it was rubbish. And the sun was warm on his face and whatever of his hands that were exposed out of his pinstripe uniform.

The Geography teacher walked in and he was immediately disinterested. Then he began to let his mind wander to his troubles. He hated having to go through this alone.

And in that instant the best idea he had ever had come to his head.

He tore out of paper from his binder book, and wrote a note

To the recipient,

Hi, I’m in a bit of a state but I have no one to help me, or not many other people willing to listen. I’m writing this note, so maybe you could help me.

I’m alone and a bit sad, actually. Not many people pay much attention to me, but whatever attention I get is normally either teasing or-“

“JOHN! What are you doing?” His Geography teacher was giving him a hell of an evil eye, probably because he’d been asked a question

“I’m just coping down the notes on the board” John said, looking at the whiteboard behind his teacher

“Okay, but keep your ears open!”

He put his head back down to his paper

Or teachers. I just want a bit of help, so if anyone ever does get this letter if you’d reply that’d be brilliant.

Thanks,”

John thought who he should sign off as. Obviously not himself, but should he use an alias?

Maybe… Hm…

Aha! The Doctor!

He wanted to be a Doctor when he left high school, of astrophysics specifically. He found astrophysics a fascinating field of science, and it’s something he’d like to pursue.

Then he finished the note.

Thanks, the Doctor”

He stuck the note in the disused tub underneath the desk, now if anyone was to open it, they’d find it.

Wait a moment, John thought.

If I want this to be private, I’ll write a forewarning.

He took the paper and folded it in four, and wrote on the front

Please read when no one’s looking or around. Thanks”

He stuck it in the tub once again, and waited until the bell rang.

That was the best sound in the world, the bells ringing. It meant freedom to him, and probably everyone else too.

He left the classroom that day with a sense of anticipation, if this was going to take off, or if nothing will happen at all. He will find out tomorrow, and for the new school day now, he couldn’t wait.

Hello! This is a fic I wanted to write for a while now. I got the idea for notes from the wonderful novel Life on the Refigerator Door, which is brilliant and definitely worth a read! So I hope you enjoy, and happy reading! Vote, comment, and spread the word!
