That night, Rose invited Shareen back to hers, walking with John on the way. John left on his way, and Rose and Shareen retreated
"He's really nice! Don't judge me, Shar! You haven't even had a conversation with him"
Rose and Shareen sat on the couch in her living room, eating popcorn they'd only popped two minutes ago. Rose grabbed a handful of popcorn, eating it piece by piece. Shareen had always used to scold her for that, but didn't bother anymore.
"He's a GEEK, Rose! He's at the bottom of the food chain, and you've got boys chasing after you from every corner! Why d'you even bother with him?" Shareen scoffed
"He's cute, Shar, in a really sort of odd way", Rose explained, "he's just so... alien. I've never met anyone like him, he's something different, ya know? I mean, have you seen his hair? It's all in the hair, Shar"
"Okay. Rose, all I'm saying, is there are plenty of fish in the sea. And they all wanna be on your line, so how about you catch a better one?"
"There isn't a better one! This is what I'm trying to tell you!" Rose said, exasperation in her voice
"I'm sure there is. You've got the pick of the bunch, you've got to take advantage of that!"
"All the other girls pining for those boys can have them! I couldn't care less! They're all the same, and I want different. Is that bad?"
"Rose, he's got you. You like him so much don't even try to deny it!" Shareen teased
"Okay, okay! I like him! I'm sorry, is that such a crime? To like someone who isn't incredibly popular and totally up themselves?" Rose sighed
"No, just good to admit it. Which you have" Shareen grinned
"Oh, shut up!" Rose got a pillow from beside her and shoved it to her face "So what if I have?" She said, muffled through the pillow
"Then, you've gotta make your move! Cause clearly, he's not gonna. The only girl he's ever associated with is probably his mum"
"That's quite true" Rose said, not disclosing John's situation to Shareen.
"So, we've got to work that out" Shareen said, a glint of mischief in her eye
Rose was going to get schooled.
