*Dan's Pov*

The four of us hung out all day. We swapped random stories and played board games and card games for a few hours. Sadley, Alex didn't have Cards Against Humanity. I'm sure I would have whooped everyone's asses.

After we got bored of all the games and tired of telling stories, we started getting deeper into conversation.

"What do you guys think is gonna happen?" Alex started. "You know, to the world. Everybody."

Nobody else answered, so I decided to contribute my thoughts.

Of course, leave it to Dan to provide opinions.

"I'd like to say that everything will be fine, that the world will fix itself if we let it. But I'm not sure that way of thinking is very realistic anymore."

Phil, who was sitting next to me on the livingroom floor, rested his head on my shoulder, and I rested my head on top of his.

"Do you think humanity will, I don't know, die out eventually?" Alex, who was still on the couch asked.

"Everything comes to an end," Bobby contributed to the conversation. "I think it's just our turn. We've had a good run, but nothing lasts forever."

We were all silent again before Phil finally spoke up.

"What about us then? Do you think we won't make it, along with everyone else?" His tone sounded harsh, but I know he didn't mean for it to be. Phil never got angry at anything, except maybe Mario Kart.

"We'll make it" Alex assured him, a fake smile plastered on her lips.

"But if humanity is going to die out, that means we will too. Which one is it then?"
He sounded more upset this time than harsh.

I lifted my head from his and he did the same as I wrapped my arms around his body, trying to comfort him as much as I could.

I didn't expect anyone to actually answer Phil's question, but Bobby did.

"Everybody dies of something in the end. Now, the process is just being sped up a little for others. But we will make it until the end of this. We'll die our own ways. We aren't going to let this kill us. We're all going to leave this world eventually, just not anytime soon."

What Bobby said really hit me. It slammed into me like a truck on the freeway. Not in a bad way, though. It was just eye opening, talking about how the world is now and our new futures. I didn't really know what to think about any of it, so I just ignored it altogether. Instead, I thought of old memories.

Thinking about the old memories hurts less than thinking about the new ones to come.

Just then, all the lights turned off, snapping us all back to reality.

"Goodbye" I heard Phil utter under his breathe next to me.

"What?" I questioned him, placing my hand on his arm.

"Goodbye to the world. It's not ours anymore. We're not in control of anything now. We're all alone, helpless and afraid. Goodbye to our lives."

I was about to protest Phil's mind set before Alex added something to his short speech.

"It's all about surviving now."

With that, I couldn't really argue. I hate to admit it, but they are right. It's time to fight for our survival, for our lives.

Let the games begin.

"I'll get some candles" Bobby mutters through the darkness.

Once the flames were lit around us, we all sat there quietly. There wasn't much left to be said at this point.

"Well, I'm gonna go to bed" Bobby broke the silence.

"Yea, me too" Phil stood up and started to make his way out of the livingroom and towards the stairs. "Dan? Are you coming?" He turned before he reaches the bottom stair.

"Uh, yea. Sure." I decided to join Phil, as I knew he wouldn't be able to sleep if I weren't in the room with him.

I followed him up the stairs and into the room we had stayed in last night, the second door on the right. The first door was the bathroom, and the two doors on the left were bedrooms, I would assume. We hadn't really opened either door since we had been here.

We both got changed quickly in the darkness and found the bed, trying not to stub our toes on any furniture.

"Goodnight" Phil yawned as he got under the covers.

"Night."

I woke to the strong smell of smoke and the screams of a women's voice downstairs.

"UNCLE BOBBY!" I heard Alex screech from below. "PLEASE!"

Phil and I both bolted upright at the sound of Alex's voice.

"Fire!" I yelled to Phil, jumping out of bed, forgetting my backpack as I swung open the bedroom door and sprinted down the steps. I could hear Phil's heavy footsteps trailing behind.

Before I even reached the bottom of the stairs, I saw the light of the fire filling the livingroom, smoke already burning my eyes and suffocating my lungs.

Alex's screams seemed to have disappeared, and so did she. And where was Bobby? Where did they go? Are they ok? Did they get out?

Just before I ran out the front door, a huge piece of the ceiling collapsed onto the floor, creating even more dust and smoke then there already was.

I turned around quickly, making sure Phil was behind me and not still upstairs. I didn't want the floor caving in beneath him. Luckily, he was right there, looking wide eyed at the scene around us, then down at me.

"What are you doing?" He yelled. "Go!"

With that, I ran out the front door, not looking back, hoping Bobby and Alex were outside safely.

A deep sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I saw Bobby carrying Alex in his arms and placing her in the backseat of the truck. She was coughing quite a bit, I presume from the smoke, but they were both safe.

"Bobby!" I called to him as Phil and I ran up to the truck. Once Alex was inside and comfortably laying on the seat, he turned around to face us.

"Boys! Thank God you're ok."

"Yea, we're ok, thanks. What happened?" I asked him, out of breathe from all the running.

"I forgot to blow the candles out. That must have caught fire to something. I woke up just as the flames started to spread, so I grabbed Alex and ran. I was going to go back for you, I-"

"We know" Phil cut him off "It's ok."

"Alex, why were you yelling?" I questioned her, Bobby stepping aside so she was in clear view.

"Uncle Bobby was struggling to pick me up and I was scared. It doesn't matter now, I'm fine." She tried to force another fake smile but gave up half way through. You can only pretend for so long.

"What time is it?" Phil asked out of nowhere. It was still dark out, and there was no trace of sun in sight, so it probably isn't even close to morning yet.

"I don't know" Bobby answered "but it doesn't matter. Let's just get going."

"Where?" I asked, forgetting the plans we made just the day before.

"Manchester."
