*Phil's Pov*
We were driving for a good hour or so with no problems. The sun was up now, so we probably left the house around four or five in the morning. Bobby had a few tanks of gas in the bed of his truck so we should be good for the whole trip.
None of us really talked much. Bobby drove while Dan sat up front with him, I was in the back with Alex.
It wasn't until now that I realized none of us grabbed any supplies or anything. Dan and I left our backpacks upstairs and nobody had time to grab any food from the kitchen. I was going to say something about it, but I would feel awkward if I broke the silence. Thankfully, Bobby did it for me.
"Uh oh."
Not so thankful anymore.
"What? What is it?" Alex asked, sitting up right. She had been slouched on her side, her head resting on the door, trying to get some sleep but failing.
I leaned forward to see through the windshield. Far up ahead were rows upon rows of cars, all abandoned and filling up every lane. As we got closer, I could see a few walkers roaming through the cars.
"Shit" Dan muttered under his breathe.
"Can we go around?" I questioned Bobby, knowing how impossible it was. He shook his head and let out a deep sigh. "Afraid not."
"I know I said season one of The Walking Dead was my favorite, but I didn't want to actually live it" Dan almost laughed before the realization of the situation struck him. His cheeks began to fluster when nobody acknowledged his comment.
"So what do we do?" Alex asked as she looked around at all of the empty vehicles surrounding us.
"Clear the walkers" I blurted without thinking. "We should.. you know, clear the walkers before we do anything else."
"Why do you keep calling them that? You guys know this isn't The Walking Dead, right? This is real. These were real people." Alex scolded, clearly disgusted.
"I- I'm sorry I just.. what do you want to call them then? Zombies?" I tried to sound sincere, but it came out more sarcastic than I intended.
She gave me a look of annoyance and ignored my question.
"Walkers it is then" She mumbled under her breathe a minute later. She seemed so agitated, and I wasn't quite sure why. She never acted like this before. She's probably just cranky after not getting any sleep.
"Bobby," Dan interrupted our conversation. "Do you have a knife or something we can use?"
"I grabbed my gun before we ran out of the house" Alex answered instead of Bobby. "Here." She grabbed the gun from under the seat and handed it to Dan. He was about to get out of the truck before I stopped him.
"Wait!" I almost yelled. "Too much noise. If there's more close by, the noise will attract them. We don't want to waste bullets either."
Dan looked at me and sighed, handing the gun back to Alex. "You're right. Anything else we got? Bobby, Alex?"
"I might have something in the back. I'll go check." Bobby opened the creaky truck door and hopped out, walking around the back of the truck and out of view.
The three of us sat in silence, nothing but the noise of rumbling in the bed of the truck as Bobby searched for a weapon. I could feel the back of the truck dip slightly as Bobby jumped up onto the bed. A minute later, I heard Bobby yell though the opened windows.
"SHIT."
We all looked out the back window to see Bobby jumping down and frantically closing the bed door. We turned back around as Bobby ran around the truck and quickly hopped back into the front seat.
