*Dan's Pov*
Once I heard Bobby's screams, I darted through the cars, trying to see where they came from.
"Bobby!" I shouted, not really caring if the walkers heard me. I was in their sight anyway. Now, it's just a matter of running fast enough.
"Bob-" I stopped in my tracks and shut my mouth when I heard someone else's voice yelling over mine.
"Dan!"
Shit. Phil. Oh no, Phil.
Without hesitation, I turned around and bolted the other way. The walkers were getting extremely close to me but I ignored them as thoughts of Phil flooded my mind.
How could I just leave him like that? What the hell is wrong with me? I promised I wouldn't leave him. I broke it.
Soon, the truck was in my field of vision.. and so was Phil. There were dozens of walkers within arms length of him. He backed away slowly, terror spread across his face as more of them got closer and closer.
I unconsciously held up the gun and aimed it at the walkers closest to Phil. My hands shook as I tried not to aim too closely to him.
BANG
BANG
BANG
BANGI took four of them down, one bullet each. A few of the walkers closer to me turned around and started to walk in my direction, but the rest stayed locked on Phil.
"Dan!" He yelled to me over the hoard.
"Phil, run! Get in the truck!"
He opened his mouth, ready for protest, but closed it again and ran back to the truck. I shot as many as I could, using every bullet in the chamber. By the time the bullets ran out, there were still six or seven walkers left, maybe a few more straggling behind the cars.
Instead of finding some way to kill the rest, I ran back to the truck, breathlessly hopping into the front seat, my ears ringing louder than a bell.
"Uncle Bobby?"
I could barely hear Alex's muffled voice with my clogged ears. I shook my head before I looked out the truck window and saw something moving behind the cars. I thought it was a walker for a moment before I realized- the person was alive.
Alex and Phil both looked out the window wide eyed. "Bobby!" Alex yelled out the open window. She shoved the heavy metal door open and hobbled out, her arm wrapped around her wounded stomach.
"Alex, wait!" Phil tried to grab her attention and followed her out.
While the two went to retrieve Bobby, I got back out of the truck and searched the cars for some kind of weapon.
After two or three cars with nothing but bags of clothes, I found a pocket knife in one of the glove compartments.
As Alex and Phil helped Bobby back to the truck, I shoved the pocket knife into each of the walkers' heads.
Covered in the familar red substance and shaking, I made my way back to our vehicle. Bobby was now laying in the bed of the truck, blood pooling over his chest. He had rips in his shirt where the blood was gushing.
I stood at the back while they sat in the bed with him. Alex's eyes were filled with water, tears starting to spill.
"You have to do it" Bobby choked out, blood starting to trickle from his mouth as he coughed.
Alex looked at Phil and nodded, signaling him to leave so they could be alone. As he jumped down from the truck, he grabbed my wrist and started to pull me away.
"Wait."
I cleaned off the bloody pocket knife in my hand with my shirt and handed it to Alex, my eyes not leaving the ground. She took it reluctantly, then Phil grabbed my wrist again, pulling me towards the front of the truck.
We both got in the truck, Phil now in the front passenger seat, me behind the wheel.
After a few minutes of silence, the back of the he truck bounced as Alex jumped down and slammed the door.
She opened the back door and struggled to get up, so Phil got out and helped her.
We all sat in the truck quietly for a few minutes before I finally spoke up.
"Where.. where are we gonna go?"
"I don't even know how to get to Manchester from here" Phil blurts quickly, his eyes focused on one spot on the dashboard the whole time he spoke.
"Alex?" I turned around in my seat and looked at the fragile girl, trying to keep the sympathy in my voice.
All she did was shake her head, her eyes not moving and the rest of her body completely still.
"I guess we'll just drive then." I took the vehicle out of park and turned it around.. and all we did was drive.
~
We drove for another two hours before we ended up in a town, quite a few walkers roaming the streets and sidewalks. None of us said a single word until now.
"Maybe we should find an empty house or something we can stay in.. you know, in like a neighbourhood." I nodded in agreement with Phil's suggestion.
A few minutes later, when we were driving through a street lined with houses, I parked the truck in a random driveway. Luckily, we didn't see many walkers on this road.
The three of us made our way onto the porch of the house. I clutched the pocket knife in my hand and told Phil and Alex to wait outside while I checked the house.
Once I searched every room in the house and found nothing, I went back outside to tell Alex and Phil it was safe.
The sun was nowhere to be seen now, as we all sat silently in the livingroom.
Phil searched the cabinets in the kitchen and didn't find much. There was an opened bag of crisps in one of them, and a half empty box of Shreddies in another. Everything else was gone. We all decided we weren't hungry anyway and tried to get some sleep.
"We'll figure everything out tomorrow" I whispered in Phil's ear as we cuddled on the floor. I felt him nod as he gripped me tighter.
"Everything's going to be alright, Phil. I promise. I told you, as long as we have each other, everything will be okay.. and I don't know about you, but I'm not leaving you anytime soon." I lifted my head up and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you" I mumbled to him.
"I love you too, bear."
