It had been so long since Jenya had been in a place where she felt completely contempt.

She had spent the last year locked up in the boarding school, keeping her nose in a book and trying to forget the cruel world.

But now, she was free to do anything she needed.

So she found herself, crossed legged on an old tree branch overlooking the valley bellow her, taking a drag of her cigarette.

Jamie, who had followed her, laid below her staring up at the sky.

The two of them just remained silent.

Jenya was too frustrated to say anything. Jamie was to high to say anything that would not piss off Jenya.

But as Jenya found herself getting to the end of her cigarette, she felt the need to rage on about her life troubles. So she stood, kicking the tree stump as she started to pace back and forth.

"He did it on purpose." She growled, clinching her fist.

Jamie giggled and rolled onto his side, "What is that, my sweet darling jelly bean?"

"Lukas. He had a girl in his room on purpose, just to mess with my head. He knows I want to get back together with him so he got a girl to make me jealous."

"I have no idea what you are saying. All I hear are mumbley- jumbley words that echo in a great abyss called my brain and I just spit out this words as a please. Isn't mumbley-jumbley a nice word?" Jamie mused.

"But what if she wasn't his girlfriend slash excuse to ignore me? What if she was a figment of my imagination? Or-"

Jamie giggled again, "Or a fairy godmother!"

Jenya directed her glare to Jamie and smashed her cigarette under her foot, "No. not what I was going for." She shook her head and turned on her heel, "What if she was actually a he? What is my crazy mind just thought that Lukas had a girl in his room because I am a crazy ex- girlfriend?"

Jenya sat down next to Jamie and put her head in her hands, "I messed up so badly, Jamie."

"Did you know that unicorns have horns?" Was his only reply.

Jenya pulled her knees to her chest and rested her chin on them, "You know you're useless when you're high, Jamie."

Jamie shrugged, "What ever gets your flowers to grow princess."

Lukas stared out the window, his eyebrows scrunched together tightly.

He couldn't help but wonder what exactly she was doing sitting on the edge of the yard next to his cousin. She always had a way of luring him. He always seemed to circling around her, almost like a protective brother but with a twist.

He loved her.

But his love was halted. He couldn't let her win.  He couldn't fall into her trap again. Not in the state that she was in.

And now, the Summer Ball was coming in just a few days and he had no one to take. He couldn't take her, of course, and he'd rather not take one of his sisters again.

That was just embarrassing.

"You can't keep looking out the window forever, Jamie." He heard his sister, Katherine, say.

Katherine leaned on the railing next to him and stared out the same window he had been staring out for age, " You haven't talked to her."

This wasn't a question, thankfully. He wasn't sure he could answer it. It was rare his sister would ask real questions. She liked to right, so most of her questions just kept the conversation going instead of informing herself.

"No I haven't. She came to my door last night, though." He said as he turned away from the window and braced his back against the railing.

"She did? Let me guess, you turned her away." Katherine replied sarcastically, rolling her eyes.

"Natalia gave me information I couldn't refuse. I cannot associate myself with her, Kat."

"Don't tell me you haven't done drugs before. I think we all have. You can't judge someone on their past, Lukas. You have to give her a second chance. And besides, you owe her. You're the one who walked out her in the past!" Kay accused, her cat-like eyes narrowing.

"Not helping. You're suppose to be on my side, Kat. What happened to that?" He asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

Kay scoffed, "You know what I learned this week? That love is corruption. Love changes a person. You know what I want to know? What the hell happened to my brother? This isn't the Lukas I know." She pushed away from the railing and started to walk away.

"Whatever." He retorted, turning back to the window.

She's gone.

"Hey, Jenya! Lukas is looking for you." He heard his sister called, her voice slightly faint.

Kat was taunting him. His heart stopped as he thought of a million ways to curse his sister. He barely had enough time to compose himself by the time Jenya waltzed over to him.

"Hey, so Kat told me you were looking for me..." she started, her eyes looking up at him through her thick lashes.

He found his hand rubbing at the back of his neck, nervously, "Not really. You know Kat, she likes to start fights."

Jenya winced, "I'm not here to start a fight, Lukas." Her voice was soft and full of hurt, the two things that instantly got to him. He hated to hurt her.

"Jenya, that's not what I meant. I'm here to fight, I promise." He protested, reaching out to touch her.

She jolted back, glaring at him. Her sunken eyes burned a hole in him. He could smell the repulsive smell of cigarette smoke coming off of her and also a slight presence of weed. He knew exactly what Jenya got herself into.

"So Lukas?" She asked, trying her best smile out.

Are her teeth yellow? Her face is also thinner. She looks so much older too.

"Yeah?"

"I" she took a deep breath, "I was wondering if you had found a date to the ball tomorrow night?"

Lukas inhaled sharply. That was tomorrow night? He honestly had thought it was farther away.

"I'll take that as a no."

"No." he retorted, his anger level starting to boil. She was trying to weasel her way into going with him, even know they both knew she wouldn't be herself.

They both knew she would be too high to do anything properly.

"Well," she stood up straighter and raised her chin proudly, "I have an excellent date. I really hope you can meet him."

Lukas mumbled under his breath, "I'll be surprised if the two of you even make it."

Jenya's jaw dropping hard and her eyes grew wide, "Ill have you know that he is a respectable man. Unlike yourself, he always shows up to the things most important to me!"

It was Lukas's turn for his jaw to drop, "Whoa, now don't you dare bring me into this! What happened last summer was..."

Jenya held her hands up, backing away and shaking her head, "Now, Lukas, I don't come here to fight. I'm going to go before this goes to far, okay? Just take a few moments to regain your composure."

Lukas glared at her back as she disappeared once more.

He pulled out his phone A searched for the one name he knew what would save the day.

"Jade, I need help." He pleaded, "Do you by chance have any single friends?"
