Syd's POV
No no no no no no no. Why was this happening to me?!? I scrolled through the messages in disbelief
and looked up. Sam was staring at me, concern evident on his face. I just knew he got the same
messages. Tears welled in my eyes and I looked away, not able to face even my best friend. I heard
him walk towards me and felt his arms wrap around me. I leaned against him and buried my face into
my hands. I allowed myself only 10 more seconds and then I pulled away. Sam cupped my face in his
hands and wiped the tears off of my cheeks, a gesture so sweet I almost didn't believe it was him. I
closed my eyes and took a deep breath. You can't let this get to you Syd. Come on, you're tough. I
opened my eyes and Sam's expression startled me. It was full of concern but he also looked slightly
frustrated. "Syd.. I know you want to seem tough but you don't have to pretend in front of me. Allow
yourself to be human. Okay?" I nodded and put out my arms. He bit back a smile and pulled me in for
another hug.
Sam's POV
Syd looked at me with mixed emotions on her face. Her eyes glistened and she turned away. Was
she... crying? I've only seen Syd cry twice before. Once was when we were 8 and her dog died and the
other was when you-know-who died. I walked up to her and enveloped her a hug. I rested my chin on
her head and just hugged her. She leaned back and I was relieved. I was slightly angry that she was
embarassed for me to see her cry. I was her best friend for pete's sake! She pulled away and tears were
still left on her face. I wiped them away and wondered why she looked beautiful even while crying.
Wait, why am I... because I'm her friend. I can think my friend is beautiful, because she is. Yeah that's it.
I told her that she could cry in front of me and she put her arms out. I hugged her and we stayed like
that. When I pulled back, I stared into her eyes that were tinged with pink and yet still big and green. I
could see sunflowers around the pupils and a mixture of caramel in them. She smelled like cinnamon
and spice. Her eyes held confusion, I must have had a strange look on my face. Do I still like... but I
couldn't. That was years ago... I heard a grunt and someone clear their throat. I turned around. Nick,
Jason, Ethan and Charlie were standing there. Charlie was trying not to laugh, Jason had his eyebrows
raised, Ethan was biting his lip and Nick had an expression I had never seen before. Was it... jealousy?
No, it couldn't be. He has liked lots of girls but he would have told me if he liked Syd. Right?
Jason finally asked, "Uh are we missing something? Cause, we can always-" he stopped. He furrowed
his eyebrows. "Syd, were you... crying?" Immediantly, all eyes went to Syd. She swallowed hard. I was
about to say something when she laughed. "Seriously Jason? My eyes have been like this all day.
