Sam's POV
I took the key out of the ignition and turned to Syd. She was looking
at me like I was poop. "You're an idiot. You know that right?" I put my hands up. "It was a slow week
okay? Besides, we are like, half a mile from my house. You can just stay there until the storm lets up."
She glared at me. "Or until your mom gets home and I can get a ride." I bit my lip. "Yeah... my family is
all gone. My mom and dad went to some resort and my siblings are spending the night somewhere. So,
no cars." She continued to stare at me. "Wow, okay." She sighed. "Well, we better go. Now's as good a
time as any." We burst out of the car and started running. The thunder boomed above us and lightning
struck somewhere far off, lighting up the sky. By the time we got to my house, it looked like we had been
dunked underneath a waterfall 50 times.
We burst into my house laughing and ran upstairs to grab several towels. Syd went into another room
to tell her mom what had happened. When she came back in, I threw her a shirt and some sweatpants.
She went into the bathroom to change. I had changed into my own pair of sweatpants and had just
pulled off my shirt when she came back in. I tried not to laugh at her. My shirt and sweatpants swamped
her. She pretended to glare but she was hiding a smile. I grinned. "Cute. Is it baggy chic?" She
punched my arm. "It's not my fault you're huge." I shrugged and grinned. "You know... I've been working
out a little..." I flexed my bicep and tried not to laugh. She rolled her eyes.
Syd's POV
Okay, when I walked out, of course Sam wasn't wearing a shirt. And of course, I tried not to look at his
muscular body with absolutely no success this time. I glanced at his perfectly chiseled body more than
once before he asked for his shirt, which was lying on the ground at my feet. I tossed it to him and we
sat down on his bed. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. I got up and looked through the
DVD's, finally deciding on The Avengers. We had seen it too many times to count but seeing it another
wouldn't hurt. Sam walked out of the room and came back in, his arms full of chips, cookies, candies
and root beers. He set it all down and plopped down on the bed on his belly. I layed down on my
stomach also and Sam hit play. I glanced at him and tried not to smile. This was so right. Two best
friends, watching movies and enjoying each other's company.
After The Avengers, we turned on my personal favorite, The Proposal. Halfway through the movie, my
lids started to close. I felt Sam snake his arm around me and pull me towards him. Before I could
protest, I was asleep.
Sam's POV
Sunlight streamed through the window and I blinked several times. I raised my head slowly and smiled
when I saw Syd next to me. Her petite frame was curled next to mine and her hair was splayed
everywhere. My arm was still around her waist. Last night, I had pulled her close to me. For warmth
purposes! She fit perfectly next to me and I was comfortable. If she had been more awake, no doubt she
would have said something. Even though we've been best friends for forever, Syd's slightly awkward
around me. She will never admit it, and one wouldn't notice, but I've known her forever. I know
what she's like when she feels awkward. Anyway, I looked at the clock and it said: 9:30. Sighing, I put
my head back on my pillow and fell asleep once more.
When I woke up again, this time it was 10:45. I looked down and was surprised to see that Syd was not
only in the same position, but she was holding my hand with both of her own. I knew that if she was
awake, she would hate for me to see her like this. So... like a good friend, I slowly pulled my hand from
hers and got off of my bed quietly. I grabbed my phone and turned on the Lumineers quietly, so that it
would wake her much nicer than I would. Then, I went into the bathroom and locked the door. I turned
on the shower and hopped in.
When I turned the water off, I heard the music still playing. So either she hadn't woken up yet or she left
it on. I began to change quickly but froze when I heard soft singing. I opened the door slowly to see Syd
with her back to me. She was on her phone and faintly singing along to Flowers in Your Hair. I crept up
and grabbed her sides. She jumped and turned around, her fists flying. I caught them and laughed. She
glared at me. "Good grief!! You have got to stop doing that!" She pulled her hands away and started
walking out the door. "Where are you going?" She looked at me like I was an idiot. "To get breakfast.
Duh. And then I should go. The storm is definitely over." Oops. We weren't really planning on a
sleepover. Well, it shouldn't be weird since we're best friends. We've probably had a hundred of these.
But this time was different. The thought almost made me feel embarrassed. What was going on?
We headed downstairs for breakfast and I started to make pancakes. We learned a long time ago not to
let Syd cook anything. It only took some aluminum foil, a fire, and a fire truck to figure that one out. I
began to fip and the smell of chocolate chips and pancake batter filled the room. Syd turned some
music on from her phone and started to sway. I was about to join her when I remembered something. I
was going to tell Syd that I knew it was her from the dance. I was going to but we had the game, but it
got postponed. Do I tell her?
