Sam's POV
I woke up Saturday morning and stretched. I grabbed my phone and saw that I had 5 new messages,
all from Syd. My heart picked up pace a little and I began to read them. They came within 2 minutes
ofeachother. They were:
I really need your help with something.
- Syd
I know you hate me right now but I don't know who else to talk to.
- Syd
Please, please I need your helpppp...
- Syd
Okay, either you really hate me or you're asleep.
- Syd
Whatever, I'll call later.
- Syd
I rolled my eyes at her urgency and texted back asking what the problem was. Immediantly, she texted
back:
Ethan cheated on S last night. I don't know how long he's been seeing someone else, it might have just been last night but I don't know what to do. She's trying to act like she's okay but I know she's not. Also, I kind of slapped Ethan. Was that wrong? Did he deserve it?
- Syd
I read over the text several times. Ethan cheated on S? I didn't picture him as the kind of guy that would
two-time someone. Biting back my disgust for the situation I texted back:
First of all, I'm a guy. I have no idea what to do about S. Can't you guys girl talk or something? And second, no I don't think it was wrong of you to slap him. Well, actually scratch that. It was wrong but I would have done the same thing. Just talk to S and I'll talk to Ethan. Don't let her try to get back together with him! Also, try not to kill him next time you see him. You can't afford to go to jail after you've been doing so well in school.
- Sam
I thought about how this affected our friend group. S and Ethan were the ones that made things less
awkward between Syd, Nick and I. We don't even have Charlie, who has been eating with other people
since this whole thing started. Our friend group has completely fallen apart. And did Syd really think I
hated her? It would make sense that she thought that from the way I've been acting. She couldn't
understand I've fallen more deeply in love with her than ever.
Syd's POV
I handed S a mug of tea and watched as she silently poured in honey and stirred. She hasn't said a
word since we've woken up... 3 hours ago. I rolled my eyes at the thought and poured some sugar into
my own tea. Finally, I couldn't take it. I asked the dreaded question. "S, are you going to be okay?" She
continued to stir and with a sigh, she placed the mug on the counter. She looked at me with her big
brown eyes. "Honestly? I don't know. I mean, how did you feel when you saw Caleb kissing another
