Chapter Ten
September 12, 2014
Shawn adjusted his tie as he checked himself in the mirror once more. He had come home from work to change. Today was the first outing in a while that he was sharing with Kanye, Kim, and Christina. Tonight they were simply going out for dinner and drinks. It was more of a round table talk, since they hadn't been out together in a long time. It almost didn't happen due to Christina's flight time changing, but she assured everyone that she made it in time.
He grabbed his wallet and slid it into his back pocket before grabbing his car keys. His mind still wondered how long Kim and Beyoncé had been considered friends. The way Kanye laughed about it, it seemed as though he'd known for a while now. But Shawn? He was still out of the loop. He tried to ask about her through Kanye, but Kanye remain strict that he wouldn't tell him any information. He knew that asking Kim wasn't the way to go.
Shawn left his house and got into his vehicle. He drove to to Keens Steakhouse. By the name, most would probably think that it was on the fairly inexpensive or fair priced side, but that wasn't the kind of outings they had. They had outings were money was spent in a large sum. He pulled up and immediately went inside.
He went to the host's station and gave him the reservation name – Carter West. He smiled as he saw Kim and Kanye already seated. They looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying their time alone.
"Oh, Shawn! Hi, sweetie," Kim said as she stood up to hug him.
"Hey. You look lovely," he complimented before shaking Kanye's hand.
"Thank you, thank you. So do you. Where's that baby mama of yours?"
Shawn laughed. "I don't know, thought she would've told y'all. Have you ordered?"
"I ordered the chilled seafood tray and a bottle of wine to start us," Kanye answered. It didn't take long before Christina arrived with her sincerest apologies.
"Sorry, traffic from my mom's was a mess," she apologized.
"Why didn't you take her to my mom's?"
"Because she wasn't answering her phone. I didn't want to make a false trip."
Shawn nodded his head, making a mental note to check on his mother later on. The waiter arrived with their wine, glasses, and seafood tray. He filled each glass with wine before letting them know his name and availability.
"So what's been up?" Christina asked the table as she began filling her miniature plate with the appetizer.
"Well, I have a wedding tomorrow," Kim announced.
"How is it going?" Christina asked.
"Perfect. I finally got the bride to calm her little nerves and realize I'm the planner."
Christina nodded. "Where is it going to be?"
"The Altman Building over on 18th."
Christina's eyes widened. "That place is beautiful!"
"Always will be," Kim smiled. There were several weddings that Kim had hosted inside of the building. She loved how even though it was the same building, it looked different each time.
"What about you? How's the businesses?"
Christina waved her off. She didn't like talking about her businesses or herself, really. "Same ole stuff."
Shawn frowned. "I don't know why she downplays her success. One of those Real Housewives shows filmed inside of the Chicago building. That'll help with business, and they paid her to film there. The one here is hosting some celebrity's teenager's little event."
