Her, too

Chapter Thirteen

October 3, 2014

The bell rang throughout the school, signaling that they had completed another school day.

"Alright, I'll see you guys next week," Bey spoke as the students left. It had been two days since the awards ceremony, and she was in a good space. Her and Shawn were supposed to meet tomorrow for lunch. They were moving slow, and she was fine with that. Today was an eventful day for her. Not only was she supposed to have dinner with Kim and Solange, she was having a meeting for her club.

She had cancelled a meeting with Natalia for this club, and she needs for it to go well. Bey was trying her hardest to balance everything, and she wouldn't complain about anything. She had to balance work, Natalia, the club, and her new found social life. She also had to help Kim plan the little party.

She cleaned up a bit before the students came in for the meeting. She heard a soft knock on her door and saw Boris entering. He wore his normal coaching attire which consisted of sweat pants and a shirt. She smirked.

"Hey, you get the stuff?" She asked him. For lunch, the two had went to the grocery store to pick up snacks for the club.

"Yeah, I'm having some boys bring it in."

Bey shook her head. He had a solid trust in his basketball team, and she loved that about him. A lot of teachers wouldn't even allow a trust to be formed with students, and she didn't like that.

"You ready for this?" She asked as she sat on top of her desk. That was her normal spot. Boris moved one of her desks to the front and sat on top of it.

"I hope it flips over," Bey mumbled.

He shot a look at her. "And I swear I'll blame you for it."

She laughed as students entered the room. She had previously spoken to a few of them about the club, so she had familiarized herself with them. Some of them, she had never met before in her life. The boys that Boris had asked to bring the snacks did so, leaving with snacks of their own.

"So first things first, thank you guys for joining the club. I'm Ms. Knowles, and this is Coach Philips. This is the first year of the club at this school, but I've done it at my previous school."

"Is this the one that was on the news?" One of the boys, Jeremy, interrupted.

Bey tilted before nodding her head. "Yes."

"Does that mean we'll be on the news?"

Bey shrugged. "That depends on how far you're willing to go for your community."

"Like?"

"Serving your community, making it better, doing all that you can."

"Like feeding the homeless?"

Bey smiled. "Yes. Would you be willing to do that?"

"My family is homeless," he told Bey flat out. She stared at him for a moment, attempting to find her words. She'd never had a student flat out confess that to her, especially in front of others.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Bey responded sincerely.

Jeremy laughed a bit. "No need to be. The longer this club is in session, the longer I'm guaranteed food and shelter."

Bey slowly nodded her head. The club continued talking about different things. They were trying to come up with a name for it, but no one could come up with anything good enough.

"Uh, Ms. Knowles..." Boris interrupted.

She frowned and looked at him. "What?"

His eyes traveled to the door, where Bey looked near the bottom to see a beautiful little girl sticking her head inside the door.
