February 2011

Luke and I went back to normal with no acknowledgement of each other at all for the rest of the year. I thought about the way I talked to Luke and I felt bad that I was really hard on him. Maybe I should apologise...No he should. I did nothing wrong. I told my best friend Amy what I told Luke.

"Em I can't believe you said all of that." She told me.

"Hey. He was being an ass. I'm not going to let him walk all over me."

"That's true." I think she was surprised that I stood up for myself. I never do.

After Luke and I had that fight we never talked to each other for the whole year. At the end of the year I got my braces off. My hair grew longer. I put on weight. My face cleared up. If anything I looked totally different to what I did at the start of the year.

March 2012

I walked into the first biology class of year 11 and of course it was the same class as last year with a few people missing and a few new people. The teacher sat us in alphabetical order as always and as always I sat next to Luke Hemmings because my last name is Halloway. We sat silently as the role was taken and this year our teacher, Mr Argus decided that our first project was going to be a partner project so that we can get to know our class mates. And you know it! I was with Luke...Sweet joy...Not.

"Hey I'm really sorry about what I said at the bus stop. I think we got off on the wrong foot last year. Could we maybe start again? It's a new year."

"I don't know Luke. You really pissed me off!" I said straight to his face.

"I know. I'm sorry and hey you said some stuff too!"

"Yeah... Well when popular little shits like you use me I get a bit annoyed."

"What makes you think I hate you?"

"The fact that you don't talk to me!" He really didn't get what was happening.

"That's because I've never talked to you."

"And why is that?"

"I don't know."

"Yes you do you just don't want to say it." Really? Was he that rude.

"Tell me. Go on."

"I'm an ugly fuck. That's why." I stormed outside the class room. I went and sat under a tree that was on the other side of the oval. I wasn't upset, I was just angry that he is so rude. He couldn't even say it to my face.

"EMMA?" I could hear him calling but I wasn't going to answer.

"Emma!" Damn it he found me.

"WHAT?"

"You're not ugly. I just didn't know what to say. I never do. If there's one thing you don't know about me. It's that I find it really hard to introduce myself to girls. I'm just weird like that."

"I find that hard to believe."

"How about I make it up to you." He won't be able to.

"And how would you do that?" I'd like to see what he comes up with.

"How about I do what ever you say for the next two weeks and hang out with you."

"And why would you want to do that."

"Something about you intrigues me. I've just never had the guts to tell you."

"Ok but I'm finding this hard to believe. You're just going to use me." I know he is.

"I promise you."

"Pinky promise?"

"Pinky promise."

Our pinkies make a promise that Luke was to hang out with me for two weeks and do whatever I tell him too. This could get interesting.
