Tears clouded your vision as you held your phone in your shaking hands. Your breathing was heavy and jagged as you tried to calm down. "It's for the best," you reminded yourself for the hundredth time that night. You dialed Reece's number and waited before you pressed the "call" button. You needed to do this, for both you and him. You wiped your tears with the back of your hand and pressed the button that you'd been doubting the entire day. You brought your phone up to your ear as time seemed to stop. It rang. "Hello?" Hearing the voice of your boyfriend made your entire world shake as you put your hand over your mouth to stop yourself from sobbing. You needed to be strong right now. "Reece," you whispered as your voice cracked. He immediately sensed something was wrong. "Hey, what's wrong, babe?" he asked. He had no idea that you were just about to break things off with him. "I- just, we need to talk," you managed to get out. You could hear him shuffle out of the room probably to get away from the boys. "Tell me what's up," he begged as you heard a door close on the other line. You closed your eyes as a new layer of tears fell. "I can't keep doing this anymore, I can't keep doing 'us'," you finally said to him. You could practically hear the sound of Reece's heart shatter in the silence that followed. "Y/N, you don't mean that," he said in a shaky voice. "I do, Reece. I'm so sorry." You could hear the sound of his heavy breathing through the phone and you could tell that he was getting angry. Reece always had a temper and you knew him well enough to know that it was happening at the moment. "After all this time? 11 months, Y/N! Fucking 11 months! And this is how you want to end things? We were getting up to our one year anniversary and you want to throw it all away? Do you have any idea what you're saying right now?" he raged. You were glad that he couldn't see you at the moment because right now, you were falling apart. You couldn't sit around and listen to him yell at you for this, you were doing this for him whether he knew it or not. The blood boiled in your veins as you used the only energy you had left. "Don't you dare go off on me, Reece! You have no idea what it's been like for me. You don't know a damn thing about it. I sit here every single night of my life wasting my time just waiting for you to come home. And you never do! All you ever do is go on tour and perform and I can't do it anymore! I can't sit around all day waiting for someone I love just to see them leave again! It's killing me, Reece. You're killing me," you cried into the phone. You could barely think straight as you began to lose vision from all the tears in your eyes.
"Y/N..." he began. "No, Reece! I won't have it, I won't hear it. I've been so broken these past few months by the only person who can fix me. And you're so busy all the time, it's like you don't even acknowledge me anymore. I can't handle the distance, okay? I'm not strong enough, is that what you want to hear? I can't waste my heart on someone who won't give me theirs in return." You hung up the phone quickly before he could say anything else. Before you knew what you were doing, your phone was throw against the wall as you collapsed to the floor. You sobbed violently as it seemed the pain would never end. You loved Reece with everything in you, but you couldn't keep doing this to yourself. It was like torture and you knew that you both deserved more. But you couldn't help but feel broken; completely broken. You didn't know if time was ever going to heal this wound, but you prayed it would. That night, your phone repeatedly went off as Reece kept trying to contact you, but you soon turned it off. You prepared yourself to go to bed, but had to stop here and there from breaking down in tears every 10 minutes. You laid in your bed where Reece would always hold you, when he was here. You knew that you would always love him, and maybe somewhere down the road you two would meet again in better circumstances, but for now, you were over.
