I can't believe that just happened. It just happened. My mind is refusing to grasp it. I cannot wrap my head around the simple little fact. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh! He kissed me. He freaking kissed me and I kissed him back! Crap. Well, I guess the cats outta the bag now, Ryker knows how I feel about him. Yet, it doesn't matter because he feels the same way. He likes me. He freaking likes me and I like him too. I like him too! There I admit it. I like him!
"Lexington." He breathed my name, dragging me back to reality. We stood on the end of this old abandoned pier, my back pressing against the railing and him pressing against me. After the kiss we just stood there, together. We stood there and just held each other, well Ryker was mostly just holding me, but you get the idea.
Anyway, I stood with my head in the crook of his warm, tan neck while he rested his cheek against the top of my head. Ryker's thick arms had wrapped themselves around my waist sometime during the kiss and here they stayed, locked around my tiny frame. He held me tight against his rock-hard chest, I wouldn't be able to escape even if I wanted too.
"Ryker. I-" My voice cut off as my pocket began to vibrate crazily. Ryker felt it too because I saw him pull back and look down at my thigh questioningly. I smiled to myself slightly as I saw a look of irritation and annoyance cross his features. It flinted away quickly though as he released me and brushed it off as I reached for my phone. I let out a annoyed groan after glancing at the caller-Id, but quickly answered it.
"Hola?"
"Mija! Aye Mija, Thank God! Are you okay?! I'm freaking out!"
"Mama. Sshh, Mama I'm fine. I'm fine." I tried to reassure her. I could hear her voice thick with tears an it hurt to know she'd been crying so much.
"Mija. Mija, I'm so sorry!"
I didn't know what to say. What was I suppose to say to that?!
"Mija, are you there?"
"Sí." I choked out as the memory of the letter came rushing back to me. Ryker, who had backed up and turned around to give me a sense of privacy, spun around at the sound of my strained voice. He quickly returned to the spot in front of me and watched me carefully. The look in his eye was a calculating look. It was like he was trying to decide whether to hug me or rip the phone out of my hand and hang up on whoever was upsetting me. Then before I could stop him, he snatched the phone out of my hand and clicked the speaker button. Before I could take it back, my mother began speaking. I fought the urge to scream as fear clawed at my chest. What if he finds out! What if he-
"Mija, I'm . . I'm just so, so sorry. Everything will be alright. It will. We'll hire the best lawyer we can track down. Everything will be fine. That . . that . . . monster will never hurt you again, I promise." I heard her choke over the last part and then her sobs began to echo over the phone. I could tell she was trying to control them but it wasn't working. "Lex. Please . . . please tell me you're . . . safe." She fought to get the words out. I felt tears well up in my eyes, I hated it when my mother cried. She rarely did, and whenever she actually did, you knew it was bad.
"I'm . . I'm safe, Mama." I tried desperately to fight the freaking tears. "I'm fine. I'm with Ryker." I finally got out. I looked up as I said his name and found him gazing at me intensely. His gold eyes burned deep into my own and I watched as his hands twitched as if he was fighting the urge to touch me. His face crinkled up as he listened to my mother, and I found myself wanting to know what he was thinking.
"Good. Good. Mija, I want you to stay with him you hear me? I don't want you alone when your this upset. I . . Can I talk to him?"
"Suree?" I answered uncertainly.
